The Ramallah Friends School Board of Trustees is seeking an experienced educational
leader to fill the position of
Lower School Principal
THE POSITION
The Board of Trustees and FUM seek to fill the position of Lower School Principal. The candidate would be an experienced educator exposed to international and progressive educational approaches and fluent in English. The Lower School Principal will be an effective, compassionate and motivated leader who will pursue the already started change process.
The Lower School Principal will work with minimal supervision and report directly to the School Director.
Responsibilities:
-Ensure continuity in updating and implementing the strategic development plan and the adoption of the IBO’s Primary Years Program, including the incorporation of more technology in education.
-Show leadership, vision, creativity and initiative in implementing Board of Trustees policies.
-Continue to build a strong elementary school using concepts such as but not limited to: Understanding by Design, 6-Traits, developmental continuums, performance-based assessment strategies, writing portfolios, and reading circles.
-Actively promote student-centered learning by creating a safe, healthy, and caring atmosphere where all students have the opportunity to be recognized for their best efforts, and continue to expand the student homeroom program so that it will include all grade levels.
-Develop collaboration among staff, and among teachers in matters of planning, teaching, and assessments.
-Develop in collaboration with the Director and the Board, a vision for the school’s future that is supported by Quaker values.
-Build capacity among staff and teachers by providing support, mentoring, and appropriate professional development opportunities.
-Assume responsibility for a program of annual performance evaluations of staff and teachers.
-Ensure an organizational leadership structure is in place that maximizes student learning and effectively supports the school’s daily operations.
-Work closely with the members of the Executive Committee (consisting of the RFS Director, Upper School Principal and Deputy Principal, and the Lower School Deputy Principal) in evaluating and developing school-wide policies, curriculum evaluation and development, financial aid allocation, and other matters that concern both schools.
-Assume responsibility for sound financial management and fiscal accountability, and work with the RFS Director in accurate program budget planning.
-Enforce policies designed to protect the safety of students and staff
-Uphold and encourage the embracing of Quaker values of peace, equality, service and tolerance throughout the school environment.
-Serve as an ex officio member of the School Board of Trustees and report to them four times a year.
-Build solid and cordial relationships with Palestinian Ministry of Education, the school PTA and with the wider community at large.
-Assume responsibility for a vigorous after-school student activity program.
-Manage and develop the school’s Learning Support program targeting children with special needs.
-Communicate effectively, creatively and honestly with students, faculty, parents, and the broader community.
-Demonstrate willingness to seek continuous professional learning and growth as a committed life-long learner.
Required Qualifications
-Related Master’s degree or equivalent
-International or UbD/PYP teaching experience
-Successful school leadership experience in international education of at least ten years
-Demonstrated success in organizational and management skills
-A leadership style that values collaboration, compromise, and a clear vision
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-Ability to commit for a minimum of 3 years
-Excellent command of the English language
Preferred competencies:
-Experience with integrating technology into the curriculum
-Experience with accreditation and/or strategic planning
-Previous experience in the Middle East
-Arabic language skills
-Previous experience in and knowledge of Quaker Education
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The School Board of Trustees and FUM are committed to employing a highly qualified educator. Salary will be moderately competitive in international terms. The cost of living in Ramallah is comparatively low allowing for a significant saving opportunity. The salary is commensurate with experience.
