Media and Communications Officer– Gaza Based
LOCATION:Gaza, OPT
Salary 107,376 ILS Gross per annum.

JOB PURPOSE: To produce and communicate material to support Oxfam GB’s programmatic work in Gaza and support the delivery of Oxfam International’s media strategy
REPORTING LINES:
Post holder reports to: Head of Office, Gaza, working closely with the Oxfam International media and comms lead in Jerusalem
DIMENSIONS:
-Delivers media and communications projects that raise the profile of Oxfam and partner’s programmes and strategic advocacy objectives at the local, regional and global levels
-Ensures that the voices of communities and partners that Oxfam works with in Gaza are
raised to global audiences and policy makers
-Expert knowledge of the Gaza and OPTI media environment and communications tools
-Capacity to independently produce quality media and communication materials (press
releases, video, photos, audio) that can be used by a variety of media
-Manages own workload without close supervision and works independently on making
decisions and problem solving on routine issues/problems.
-Works to tight deadlines and flexible hours when needed
-Works closely with programme teams, technical experts partners and management to
provide expert communications advice across the organisation. Provides
creative/innovative solutions to routine problems/tasks and projects.
-Forward planning and management of small projects or elements of large projects.
-Represents Oxfam to external contacts, especially journalists, and may need to deal with
influential senior external contacts.
-May involve supervision and guidance of assistants, consultants or volunteers
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Work with local media in Gaza and regional Arabic media to proactively generate coverage of Oxfam’s programmes and strategic advocacy objectives.
-Provide strategic communications input into programme proposals and donor reports in order to meet visibility requirements, increase programme impact, and help bring policy change; and ensure links between our programmes and advocacy work. This will involve adapting complex policy and development issues for different target audiences
-Support engagement with international media to raise global awareness on the situation for people in Gaza, including developing news and feature stories, organizing trips and briefings, and documenting evidence-based information
-Produce high quality written and multimedia materials, including press releases, blogs, case studies, situation reports, photographs and video, and Oxfam’s monthly Gaza Update
-Support local partner organizations to develop high impact media and communications strategies and products, including stories, case studies, audio-visual material and press releases
-Build the capacity of Oxfam staff and partner organizations to produce high quality media and communications products and carry out media interviews
-Produce materials for online and social media use, and improve Oxfam’s engagement with wider online audiences
-Support media and communications work around emergencies in Gaza
-Act as a spokesperson for Oxfam in media interviews as required, and brief other staff
ahead of interviews and public events
-Build relationships with media/comms colleagues in other organizations (eg NGOs, UN
agencies, civil society) to coordinate and collaborate on projects
-Provide regular analysis of Gaza media coverage and outlets
SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:
-Excellent written and verbal communications skills in Arabic and English
-Knowledge of local, regional and international mass media with a track record of
success and results achieved; (job specific)
-Experience of producing high quality written and audio-visual materials, including experience using relevant editing software
-Education to degree level in job related sector (job specific)
-Professional communications skills, gained within a journalism/PR environment, to
communicate and adapt complex policy and development issues to different levels of
target audience; (job specific)
-Excellent networking and negotiation skills to develop good working relationships
within Oxfam and with the media; (communications; influencing others)
-Ability to think and operate strategically and creatively (analytical thinking)
-Skilled in an integrated approach to advocacy that includes lobbying, public

thinking)
-Understanding of gender issues and commitment to promoting gender equity (job specific; conceptual thinking)
-Proven experience of using MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point)
