BackGround
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) re-established its presence in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) in January 2009 and is mainly developing programme activities in the sectors of shelter, education and the provision of information, counselling and legal assistance (ICLA). The long term objective of the programme is to contribute to improved protection and living conditions for refugees and internally displaced persons in the oPt.

Job Purpose
The Media and Information Officer will gather and support the gathering of information from a wide range of sources, including primary data / personal interviews with NRC beneficiaries to support the media and advocacy requirements of the office.  The Officer will manage the packaging of this information for various purposes and provide written and verbal analysis of emerging trends based on this research. The Media and Information Officer will gain a wide familiarity with journalists and media in the OPT and Israel, and identify opportunities for using relevant documentation.  The Officer will work closely with programme staff to ensure media and information activities are in line with programme objectives and strategies.

Tasks and Responsibilities
-Develop and implement a media and communications strategy for NRC oPt;
-Establish a network of journalists and news outlets in the oPt and Israel, and with key domestic and foreign correspondents and news outlets;
-Gather and analyse information from a wide range of sources (UN, NGOs, media, internet, personal contacts, etc.) on the overall situation in the oPt and provide regular written and verbal briefings as necessary, in support of advocacy and media initiatives; 
-Initiate, coordinate and manage visits from the media to NRC beneficiaries and communities;
-Package and re-package existing and new NRC materials for use in media and advocacy initiatives;
-Conduct ongoing assessments and monitoring of the situation;
-Support ad-hoc information requests and carry out other tasks as required.

Qualifications
Required:
-University degree in Social Sciences or related field;
-Excellent written and spoken English and Hebrew;
-Ability to understand and strategically use information;
-Ability to produce high-quality documents, materials and other communications in English;
-Computer literacy in using Microsoft Office and email/internet. Experience using Microsoft Publisher would be desirable;
-Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
-Ability to work as part of a team;
-Ability to work in Jerusalem;

Desired:
-Prior experience working with a national or international NGO;
-Relevant work experience in media, journalism and/or communications;
-Legal background, including knowledge of legal developments and trends in oPt and Israel on Housing, Land and Property Issues.
-Written and spoken Arabic;
-Ability to travel to all areas of the oPt and Israel.

-Commencement:1st March 2012
-Contract period:12 months, with possible extension
