General Description
- Providing oversight, diagnosis, management, and follow-up for sick and injured children who are coming into the organization with complex medical requirements in need of specialized management;
- Further leading existing PCRF medical programs and projects, such as our congenital heart program in Gaza and Ramallah;
- Developing new initiatives that will enhance the organization’s ability to treat children with complex medical conditions; and,
- Technical advisor and overseeing the IT systems, such as our patient database, to ensure that systems are user-friendly for physicians and are used properly by staff, making sure all patients are properly managed in the systems, and their files are up to date and comprehensive.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Medical Patient Review for Medical Missions:
The Medical Director is required to perform the following tasks:
- Help streamline the diagnostic process, and ensure that our Area Coordinators/Social Workers are able to oversee the care of complex pediatric cases under proper ethical supervision;
- Review more complex patient files for potential treatment/services from the various PCRF departments (Patient Affairs, Medical Missions, Humanitarian Projects, Sponsorship);
- Ensure the patient has been given the correct diagnosis and is referred appropriately, and that the follow-up plan is understood and relayed correctly by the PCRF social workers to the patients’ families.;
Overseeing the Technical Development of the Patient Database:
The Medical Directors is required to perform the following tasks:
- Advise and assist in the technical aspects of the development and sustainability of the patient database to ensure that it contains the correct medical data, is user-friendly for mission physicians, and properly used by PCRF staff;
- Coordination with the IT department, the PCRF staff, and volunteer doctors to ensure that all aspects of the system are function to the needs of the organization and patients;
- Train the local staff, volunteers and stakeholders in the use and management of the Patient Database system;
- Be sure that all patients that are managed for treatment abroad, patients coming in from the field, referred through third-party sources and screened in missions are in the system with complete and comprehensive files.
Participating in Palestinian and Middle Eastern Medical Societies:
The Medical Director is required to perform the following tasks:
- The Medical Director will join and participate in medical societies in Palestine, the Middle East and globally to connect with local doctors and regional resources and ensure that our work in the Middle East is supported and understood within the local medical institutions.
- Working on a peer-to-peer basis the Medical Director will make connections and foster relationships to help the organization grow in this area
- Improve public identity and maintain a highly respected image.
Participating and Supporting Volunteer Medical Missions:
The Medical Director is required to perform the following tasks:
- The Medical Director will work with the PCRF’s Medical Missions Coordinator to help volunteer visiting physicians as needed:
a. assisting in the medical pre-screening process of potential patients,
b. clear please complex patients when needed for surgery prior to the team’s visit;
c. assist the visiting doctors as needed with communication of medical terms and information to the patients and families;
d. Following up patients after surgery and reporting back to the volunteer doctors concerning any complications in medical terms
Development Coordinator of Medical Subspecialty Services:
- Further the efforts of the medical advisory board in building up specialized services in the occupied territories;
- Work with the MOH to develop the public health sector in Palestine, expanding its ability to be more independent and increasing the ability of local doctors to better care for their patients;
- Address the issues related to referrals abroad in the MOH to reduce the number by better management of cases through missions;
- Identify local candidates for training and locations in the country where specializations can be developed and centralized;
- Identify infrastructural weaknesses in partner hospitals and develop projects to address them, including concept papers, budgets and supporting procurement on a technical level.
- Empower the international medical advisory volunteers to be more active and involved in this process, particularly with reviewing patient files for treatment abroad, and before missions;
Minimum Skill Requirements
- Board Certified/Board Eligible pediatrician
- Training and experience in Public Health; Master’s Degree (Preferred but not required)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Written and verbal fluency in Arabic and English
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Apps
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
