Job Vacancy
Position: Mental Health and Psychosocial Specialist
Location: Gaza Office
Duration: 6 months, from January to June 2010 extendable to a year (in case of phase 2)
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the scope of the newly implemented Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Unit in Gaza, assist the Coordinator, Data Analyst and Publication Officer in:
-Providing a comprehensive situation analysis and mapping of MHPSS needs, resources and gaps in regards to the sector in the Gaza strip (including at community level), and sharing with MHPSS actors;
-Ensuring a comprehensive and dynamic MHPSS referral system for children, families and
caregivers in need, in close collaboration with MHPSS stakeholders;
-Creating and developing a range of evaluation and monitoring tools depending on needs;
-Liaising closely with the MHPSS working group and sharing the appropriate information/data/ situation updates to its members, and actors in the area;
-Developing ethical guidelines in the area of MHPSS, as outlined in the Inter-Agency Standing
Committee (IASC) Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Interventions in Emergencies;
-Setting up an awareness raising campaign with MHPSS members/actors on access to mental
health and psychosocial support in the Gaza Strip;
-Helping the Coordinator organize participatory meetings, consultations and conferences;
-Attending and reporting on other sector meetings as appropriate;
-Supervising the work of the Data Analyst and Publication Officer;
-Monthly reporting to the MHPSS Technical Unit Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCES:
-Minimum of 8 years relevant professional work experience in mental health and psychosocial
programming, at clinical and/or community levels, and particular experience during emergency
and recovery response programmes;
-University Degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Mental health or other related fields;
-Strong empiric knowledge on mental health and psychosocial sector in Gaza;
-Participatory research and action methodologies at community level;
-Good knowledge of IASC Guidelines on MHPSS;
-Understanding of child based research methodologies and tools;
- Ability to engage and form effective working relationships with counterparts and beneficiaries;
-Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and other);
-Excellent writing and analytical skills;
-Fluency in English, Arabic as mother tongue.
PERSONAL QUALITIES REQUIRED:
-Strong skills in interpersonal relations, networking and communication
-Ability to be flexible and to work in close collaboration with team members
-Strong organisational skills
