Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian action-driven organization, providing aid to populations in need, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to the people affected by armed conflicts, without discrimination and regardless of their race, religion, belief or political affiliation (MSF Charter). Within MSF, the Psychosocial Support Unit (PSU) is a team of psychologists dedicated to the support of MSF OCBA staff.
BACKGROUND
The program aims to reduce physical and mental morbidity and mortality in the most vulnerable Palestinian communities affected by conflict-related violence in the Hebron Governorate while preserving human dignity. We are seeking a psychologist or psychiatrist experienced in supporting staff responsible for providing care. The focus is on managing distress caused by work-related situations.

PURPOSE OF THE CONSULTANCY
Individual Consultations: Provide individual consultations to staff members. These consultations may occur in the Consultant’s office, the project offices in Hebron (face-to-face), via Skype, or by phone, based on the request and approval of the person in charge of Technical Support (TS).
Group Sessions and Workshops: Conduct group sessions and workshops on topics such as self-care, prevention of compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatization for all medical staff involved in the Hebron project. The project will provide basic stationery for these sessions.
Referrals: Coordinate referrals for individual consultations to other psychotherapists, subject to prior authorization by the TS.
Critical Incident Support: In the event of a critical incident or severe security incident, alert the Psychosocial Support Unit (PSU) at HQ following the Critical Incident Protocol. Collaboration with the Mental Health Consultant in Hebron/West Bank/Jerusalem may be requested based on needs.
Selection Criteria & Training and Experience
- Professional Background:
- Mental Health Professionals: Candidates must be qualified as either a psychologist or psychiatrist, with substantial clinical and psychosocial experience.
- Staff Support Expertise: Demonstrable knowledge and experience in staff support, crisis intervention, and group facilitation.
- Conflict and Crisis Experience: Proven ability to provide psychosocial support in contexts of conflict, violence (including sexual violence), and natural disasters.
- Group Management: Competence in managing groups and implementing prevention strategies to enhance team resilience.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Humanitarian Experience: Familiarity with aid work and its unique challenges.
