Terre des hommes (Tdh) is a leading organization worldwide on child protection, which accumulates over 40 years of experience in the Palestinian context. Tdh aims at contributing to develop and improve the child protection systems and juvenile and gender justice.  Under the project funded by UNICEF, Terre des Hommes (TDH) is seeking a dedicated and experienced MHPSS Facilitator to join our team in the Gaza Strip. This role will primarily focus on supporting children and their caregivers, especially those who are separated, or otherwise at risk. The MHPSS Facilitator will be instrumental in promoting the well-being of children and their caregivers through a range of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities.

We are looking for a results-oriented, dynamic, and proactive individual who can design, organize, and implement community and group activities for children and their caregivers. The ideal candidate will ensure that these activities are safe, equitable, high-quality, accessible, timely, and efficient, responding effectively to the needs of children and their caregivers.

Specific Responsibilities / Context:

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Services   

  • Plan and facilitate group activities and community-based recreational events specifically for separated children, at-risk children, and their caregivers, with a focus on families providing kinship care.
  • Lead awareness sessions on child protection (CP) and gender-based violence (GBV) for caregivers of separated and at-risk children, equipping them with essential knowledge and resources.
  • Develop and implement parenting programs aimed at promoting the mental health and psychosocial well-being of caregivers, while enhancing their capacity to support their children effectively.
  • Establish and lead support groups for families providing kinship care.
  • Conduct awareness sessions and activities for children and caregivers focused on preventing and responding to family separation.
  • Work closely with the project team and TDH staff to prepare and produce various information, education, and communication materials related to mental health and psychosocial well-being, tailored to the specific needs of the target population.
  • Gather necessary data and information in collaboration with the Project Manager and MEAL Senior Officer to inform program effectiveness and decision-making.
  • Deliver MHPSS services in accordance with TDH standard operating procedures (SOPs) and established guidelines to ensure quality support.
  • Ensure timely availability of materials and logistical arrangements for MHPSS activities by coordinating with TDH units and adhering to logistics procedures.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community leaders and relevant stakeholders to support the implementation of activities and encourage community participation.
  • Identify children and adults requiring advanced intervention and coordinate with the MHPSS supervisor for referrals to specialized services, following national referral protocols.

Coordination and representation

  • Work in close collaboration with Tdh partners and other key actors.
  • Coordinate with other Tdh project/programs to ensure implementation of standardized activities and with other departments (program and support) as necessary.
  • Participate in forums and meetings in her/his field of expertise, when relevant and necessary.

Security

  • Comply with Tdh Security Regulations
  • Participate in updating security plans, as needed.
  • Knows and implements institutional policies on security, child protection, PSEA and Code of Conduct and fraud prevention; ensures the staff know and implement the procedures in their day-to-day work;
  • Commits to ensure the best implementation possible of the Tdh Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP) in her/his area, including participation in annual audit, and reviews and updates of action plan;
  • Commits to inform the Gaza emergency field coordinator , Country Representative and/or the National Safeguarding Focal Point and/or the Head of MENA Region and to deal with any case of any allegations or possibility of transgression, even potential, of the CSP.

Project Monitoring, accountability and learning support

  • Participate in developing project plans, activity, and output indicators reporting along with the Q&A support team.
  • Ensure accurate project implementation reporting with necessary supporting documents; review and support projects staff with project records and registers up keeping.
  • Support the accountability (complaints / feedback response mechanism) through follow-up of complaints that come through the CFRM channels and support in the resolution and closure of operation / programmatic complaints
  • Fosters a learning environment along with the Q&A staff and promotes critical reflection of project activities and interventions.

Abuse Prevention Policy - Operational Risk Management

  • Commit to respect Tdh Risk Management Policies including: Child Safeguarding Policy, Safety and Security Policy and Anti-Fraud/Corruption Policy, Whistle Blowing Policy.
  • Commit to ensure the best implementation possible of the Tdh Risk Management Policies.
  • Commit to inform supervisors and to deal with any cases, allegations, or possibility of transgression, even potential, of the Tdh Risk Management Policies.

Others

  • Supports the leadership team to organize and facilitate, conferences, exchange of experience mission and field visits for external management staff and donor representatives.
  • Any other duty as required by the line supervisor.

Job Requirements

Requirements for the position

  • Experience in designing and implementing community, recreational, and group activities.
  • Proven ability to engage with community leaders and members effectively.
  • Solid experience in facilitating structured group sessions for both children and adults.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing effective parenting activities.
  • Ability to travel to project locations for activity implementation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or Mental Health.
  • Strong understanding of mental health and psychosocial support principles, ethics and methods.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in similar roles with international INGOs or NGOs.
  • Direct experience working with unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) and children facing protection concerns.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities to manage multiple tasks effectively.
