Medical Missions’ Companion
Location: Hebron
- Background:
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a UK-registered charity that has been reaching out to the Palestinian communities, striving to deliver health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement. MAP provides immediate medical aid to those in need at times of crisis, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. MAP’s vision is of a future in which all Palestinians can access an effective, sustainable, and locally led system of healthcare and the full realization of their rights to health and dignity.
MAP works with national and international partners including the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Al Makassed Hospital to conduct 2 multidisciplinary medical missions in Hebron. One mission will focus on non-communicable disease (NCD) and the other mission will focus on improving neonatal care in the Hebron area. The objective of the NCD mission is to enhance the capabilities of healthcare workers to effectively address the prevention, diagnosis, management, and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). By building the capacities of healthcare professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge, the mission aims to strengthen NCD care delivery and ultimately reduce the burden of these diseases within the community. The neonatal medical mission aims to improve the health outcomes of newborns and infants by providing specialized medical care and support. This mission focuses on addressing the unique health needs of neonates, particularly those born prematurely or with medical complications. Key objectives include enhancing neonatal healthcare services, promoting early detection and treatment of neonatal conditions, reducing neonatal mortality and morbidity rates, and building the capacity of healthcare providers through training and education.
