Mobile Clinic Driver
Location: Ramallah – travelling to Jordan Valley
Mission: Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement, in the occupied Palestinian territory and Palestinian refugee camps of Lebanon.
Purpose: The daily-hire driver is responsible for providing services to MAP on as needed basis. He is responsible for ensuring safe and efficient transportation of the mobile clinic staff and supplies within and around the West Bank. This includes maintaining the assigned vehicle, adhering to MAP policies and procedures, and complying with local traffic laws. The Driver plays a crucial role in supporting the mobile clinic team’s operations in a conflict, humanitarian setting.
Responsibilities
- Be available on short notice to provide the detailed services to MAP office.
- Transport MAP mobile clinic staff and supplies from MAP’s office and warehouse to designated mobile clinic locations and back to the office.
- Checking , prior to each trip,the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle (state of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, fire extinguisher, first aid kit etc.).
- Maintain logbooks and other paperwork related to the use of vehicles and ensure that log sheets are registered after each trip. Carrying out a handover if another uses the vehicle.
- Ensuring the security of passengers in the vehicle, driving carefully, observing speed limits and traffic rules in the country as well as MAP security rules, to avoid car accidents.
- Follow procedures at checkpoints.
- Observe the route, road, location, destination and security situation in each journey and report back to your supervisor in case of any incident.
- Adhere to all MAP security and safety policies and guidelines.
- Ensure the security of staff and vehicles while in the field.
- Ensuring all passengers have all necessary papers in order before traveling.
- Ensuring that all vehicle documents and the driver's driving license are valid and in the vehicle.
- Informing the MAP focal point of any incident involving the transportation of passengers and/or supplies.
- Knowing how to use navigation tools, especially smartphone apps, and communicating with the office according to MAP communications policy to inform the driver's position and any potential implications.
- Knowing and respecting the security rules related to vehicle movements, specifically those related to customs, checkpoints, and roadblocks. Ensuring all passengers know and respect the security rules.
- Ensure proper use of the vehicle logbook and fuel consumption records.
- Monitor and report any irregularities in vehicle performance.
- Undertake any other reasonable task assigned by management.

Person Specification
- Proven experience working as a Driver in a humanitarian/recovery context.
- Experience working with INGOs or international organizations is a plus.
- Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
- Ability to work in a flexible working schedule subject to work needs.
- Valid driving license and knowledge of basic mechanics
- Excellent knowledge of the geographically assigned environment.
- Experience in security protocols and procedures.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic is essential.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to work under pressure.
