Reporting to:Project Manager
Duties and responsibilities
 
-Fluency spoken and written English, Modern Standard Arabic and Hebrew;
-Assist Project Manager in preparing Mission’s Reports
-Assist Project Manager in drafting Mission’s planning and evaluation documents
-Provides professional simultaneous or consecutive interpretation, during workshops, trainings, conferences and other events;
-Assists with interpretation and translation as required during, field visits, meetings and any other translation duties;
-Assists international mission members in contacting their local counterparts, in confidence building and maintaining good relationship with them;
-Provides mission members with a grammatically correct, well-expressed, high standard final version of translated texts from English to Modern Standard Arabic and Hebrew or vice versa;
-Ensures that the meaning of the source text is retained;
-Uses specialized dictionaries, thesauruses, and references in English, Modern Standard Arabic and Hebrew to find the closest equivalents for terminology and wording used;
-Researches legal, technical and border-related terminology to find the most accurate and faithful translation within the given context;
- Uses appropriate software for the presentation and delivery of translated documents;
-Proofreads and edits final translated versions or any other document to ensure high quality of language and content;
-Shows awareness about confidentiality of information;
-Proves knowledge and sense how to handle sensitive issues;
-Provides local cultural advice to international mission members.
-Continuously develops knowledge, learning skill and practice;
-Solid work ethics, punctuality, commitment to quality, careful attention to detail, ability to perform under stress, willingness to work flexible hours, good multi-tasking and organisational skills.
-Demonstrates self-discipline, flexibility and service delivery;
-Performs other duties as required by the Head of Mission, the Border Manager-Border and acts as back-up for translators of the Mission.
 
Skills and qualifications
 
Education
-University degree (minimum 3 years full time studies) in Interpretation/Translation or other relevant fields.
-Equivalent relevant professional experience of 6 years after successful completion of secondary education in lieu of the required university degree may be considered;
-Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferable in border policing, customs and/or legal context;
 
Work experience
-Computer literacy, including word processing software and internet;
-Ability to provide professional simultaneous, consecutive, and whispered interpretation;
-Deep experience in reporting activities
-Experience in the field of rule of law, border policing and customs procedures is desirable;
-Have a good cultural background, well educated, motivated and presentable;
-Ability to work under minimum supervision;
-Ability to stick to strict deadlines;
-International experience, particularly from the ESDP and other international missions in crisis areas with multi-national and international organizations highly desirable;
 
Other skills/competences
-Ability to operate Windows and Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word processing, Outlook, Excel and Power Point; Excellent analytical, organizational, managerial and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to establish priorities, to plan and co-ordinate own work;
-Good interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;
Additional Requirements
-Civilian driving license class B (mandatory) and C (desirable);
-ID-card allowing free movement inside Israel and the West Bank;
-Permit allowing to drive in Israel and West Bank;
