The European Union Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah Crossing Point – code name EUBAM Rafah – was launched on 24 November 2005, to monitor the operations of the border crossing point between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, after Israel and the Palestinian Authority concluded an Agreement on Movement and Access on 15 November 2005. The Council of the European Union welcomed the Agreement and approved that the EU should undertake the third-party role proposed.
The Mission is currently seeking for a candidate to fulfil the position of National Language Assistant to be recruited on 01 July 2016.

Duty Station: Ramat Gan-Tel Aviv
Contract Regime: Contracted for one year, with possibility of renewal
Number of Posts: 1.
Duties and responsibilities:
Under direct supervision of the Head of operation section:
-Act as a Mission interpreter between Arabic, Hebrew and English conveying orally in any selected language to a given audience,
-Provides a high standard of written text in Arabic/Hebrew into English and English into Arabic/Hebrew, with an excellent knowledge of the source language and mastery of the target language,
-Provide a high standard professional of simultaneous or consecutive interpretation, during workshops, trainings, conferences and other events,
-Assists with interpretation and translation between English, Arabic and Hebrew as required during, field visits, meetings and any other translation duties,
-Assists international mission members in contacting their local counterparts, in confidence building and maintaining good relationship with them,
-Uses specialized dictionaries, thesauruses, and references in English, Modern Standard Arabic and Hebrew to find the closest equivalents for terminology and wording used,
-Researches legal, technical and border-related terminology to find the most accurate and faithful translation within the given context,
-Uses appropriate software for the presentation and delivery of translated documents,
-Proofreads and edits final translated versions or any other document to ensure high quality of language and content,
-Shows awareness about confidentiality of information,
-Proves knowledge and sense how to handle sensitive issues,
-Provides local cultural advice to international mission members,
-Continuously develops knowledge, learning skill and practice,
-Solid work ethics, punctuality, commitment to quality, careful attention to detail, ability to perform under stress, willingness to work flexible hours, good multi-tasking and organisational skills,
-Demonstrates self-discipline, flexibility and service delivery,
-Performs other duties as required by the Head of Operational Section.
Skills and qualifications
Education
University degree (minimum 3 years full time studies) in Interpretation/Translation or other relevant fields in Arabic, Hebrew and English,
-Excellent writing, cross-cultural, linguistics and communication skills appropriate to position and good general education.
Work experience
-Minimum five years of relevant professional experience.
-Computer Literacy, Including word processing software and internet,
Ability to provide professional simultaneous, consecutive, and whispered interpretation,
-Experience in the field of rule of law, border policing and customs procedures is desirable,
-Ability to work under minimum supervision,
-Ability to stick to strict deadlines,
-International experience, particularly from the ESDP and other international missions in crisis areas with multi-national and international organizations highly desirable.
Other skills/competences
-Ability to operate Windows and Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word processing, Outlook, Excel and Power Point,
-Excellent analytical, organizational, managerial and problem-solving skills,
-Ability to establish priorities, to plan and co-ordinate own work,
-Good interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity,
-Resilient under mental pressure (stress-resistant) and willingness to work extra hours when required.
Additional Requirements
-Civilian driving license class B (mandatory) and C (desirable),
-ID-card allowing free movement inside Israel and the West Bank,
-Permit allowing to drive in Israel and West Bank.
