National Project Officer Advocacy and Health Promotion

Job Description

The World Health Organization wishes to recruit a national Advocacy and Health Promotion Officer for its Advocacy Unit based in Jerusalem.

Description of duties:
The WHO has recently started a new project funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation in support of the Palestinian Ministry of Health on health promotion and the right to health. We are looking for someone who has experience of health promotion and education and/or of public relations to join the team and work closely with the MoH on this project. Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Advocacy Project Manager and the Head of Office, the incumbent will perform the following tasks and duties:
-Support the Advocacy Unit in
1) its current role in coordination and leading activities for the Right to Health;
2) in health promotion on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases;
-Ensure that the unit and the MoH is informed regularly about ongoing activities at national and regional level in both areas;
-Assist in the development of media and communications materials;
-Prepare a brief analysis on what has been achieved in the national context on health promotion and health education;
-Develop a needs assessment for health promotion and health education strategies and activities;
-Support the MoH in the initiation of a national network on health promotion and health education, including preparations for required meetings and conferences;
-Support the MoH (Health Promotion Unit) in preparing health education and promotion campaigns on key risk factors for chronic diseases e.g. smoking, physical inactivity and unhealthy diet;
-Support the Advocacy Officer to ensure that health-related themes are sufficiently represented in all UN and other coordination and monitoring mechanisms.
-Collaborate and support other work and activities of the Advocacy Unit.
-Perform any other task as requested by the Head of Office.

Qualifications:
-University degree in a relevant field (health, media communications)
-At least 3 years experience in health promotion/education, advocacy or public relations
-Experience in leading, organizing and/or commissioning public campaigns
-Experience in UN agency or NGO desirable
-Good knowledge of the region.
-Fluent Arabic and English. Hebrew is an asset.
-Good self-starter, team worker and organizer. Enthusiastic and used to working in complex environments, good capacity at solving problems.
-Good networking skills.
-Computer proficiency.

Duration of contract: The duration of the post is of 12 months with a possibility of renewal.
