Nursing Team Supervisor

Job Description

MSF Spain is looking for a Nursing Team Supervisor in Gaza to  Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.

Responsibilities:

•   Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.

•    Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her specialty.

•       Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.

•       Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.

•       Ensuring  that all staff  using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.

•       Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.

•       Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

·         Ensure quality of care in MSF activities and locations.

·         Ensure necessary MSF protocols available in the departments and regularly review understanding by staff through supervision and trainings.

·         In collaboration with NAM and MAM, propose training needs and ideas related to observations made during supervision of different departments.

·         Maintain regular presence in the different activities to ensure that MSF standards in place and that support available to any staff when encountering challenges.

·         Ensure confidentiality and dignity respected for patients within all MSF activities and communicate any issues immediately to NAM for follow-up.

·         Participate in daily and weekly data collection as well as contributing analyses made from the data in relation to observations made during supervision and communicate this with NAM.

·         Supervise PHCC activities and participate in day to day management through preparation and follow-up of rosters, overview of pharmacy stock and organization within the different services, MSF protocols and standards in place and regularly followed, and preparation of regular trainings based on current needs. In collaboration with NAM, communicate day to day challenges and propose possible solutions.

·         Supervise Emergency Room and Observation Room/Inpatient Services in day to day management through preparation and follow-up of rosters, overview of pharmacy stock and organization within the different services, MSF protocols and standards in place and regularly followed, and preparation of regular trainings based on current needs. In collaboration with NAM, communicate day to day challenges and propose possible solutions.

·         Flexibility to change supervision duties based on current needs. For example, supervising in one PHCC and moving to another, or being asked to supervise inpatient activities depending on current operations of OCBA.

·         Contribute to learning and development of nursing and other health staff by setting an example on MSF standards of care, as well as by regularly providing bedside training as well as organizing formal trainings in collaboration with NAM and MAM.

·         Ensure a positive and dynamic working environment for all staff by upholding MSF principles and creating a safe environment for staff and patients to share concerns and feedback by being open, receptive and ensuring a follow-up of these concerns. Also ensuring to always communicate this to NAM in a timely manner for further support and follow-up.

·         Act as a focal point for communication between multiple departments for daily functioning of activities such as Health Promotion, Logistics (Watchmen, Crowd Controllers, Hygienists), Administration, Pharmacy etc…, while also following lines of communication in collaboration with NAM.

·         In collaboration with NAM, MAM and MHAM, ensure that staff are informed and trained regarding SGBV circuit and protocols and enforce strict confidentiality and dignity for this circuit.

Job Requirements

Education

Speciality (nurse or anesthetist) diploma essential.

Experience

Essential 2 years of previous experience. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.

Languages                           

Mission and local language essential.
