Partnership Background:

Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) is a grassroots; community- based Palestinian health organization. PMRS was founded in 1979 by a group of Palestinian doctors and health professionals seeking to supplement the decayed and inadequate health infrastructure caused by years of Israeli military occupation. It is non-profit, voluntary, and one of the largest health NGOs in Palestine. PMRS is national health programs emphasize prevention, education, community participation, and the empowerment of people.
Terre des hommes Italy is a nongovernmental organization, member of the International Terre des hommes Federation, working in Palestine since 20 years and in Gaza since 2008. Terre des hommes Italy assists 100,000 children and 400,000 people with 70 projects in 22 countries.

PMRS and Tdh-It are implementing partners in Psychosocial and nutritional support to preschool-age children and their siblings in Gaza Strip (phase 2) after the successful experience of phase 1.

The project

The Psychosocial and nutritional support to preschool-age children and their siblings in Gaza Strip is the follow up of a similar intervention implemented in 2009/10 by the Partners. The project is funded by Echo – European Commission Humanitarian Aid with 12 month duration, is implemented in 22 Kindergartens and surrounding areas in East Khan Younis and West Rafah.


Background          Degree, bachelor or similar in: Nutritional sciences, nursing, health sciences
Experience        Working experience of 1 year at least.
Experience in working with children, delivering training and awareness sessions are positively valued.
Other relevant experience:  e.g. volunteering, etc.
Competencies    Beyond what required in the ToR the applicant must fairly patronize the Windows Office Suite
Contextual competencies     in managing relations within organizations, capacity of execute multiple task, result oriented. Communication Skills are essential.
Language skills    English Language (written, spoken) is positively valued

Main tasks
After the initial training and capacity building, the main task is to implement educational activities on nutritional issues at family and community level, by wide spreading key messages about the importance of nutrition needs and nutritional habits for the healthy development of under 5 children and of the family members as a whole.

Specific tasks are:
-Attend training sessions on nutritional issues and on participatory tools to be utilised in group awareness sessions.
-Support health staff in implementing nutritional screening in the KGs and entering data in database and awareness sessions in the Kg.
-Organise home visits to the families of selected beneficiaries and identify social cases in the community
-In coordination with the colleagues and with the project health staff, design and carry out activity plans
-Monitor the impact of all activities done on behaviours changes and on wellbeing of the children and collect all data requested by the monitoring system set up by the project
