Background:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Protection Cluster Coordinator, the incumbent will assist in coordinating and supporting the work of the Protection Cluster for the occupied Palestinian territory, which is led by OHCHR. With a geographic focus on the central and northern West Bank (Ramallah post) or the southern West Bank (Hebron post).

Description of Responsibilities:
the primary responsibilities of the incumbent(s) will be to:
-Assist in the day-to-day coordination of the meetings and activities of the Protection Cluster Working Group and of the sub-groups chaired by OHCHR (in particular, the Core Group on Settler Violence), working in close cooperation with Protection Cluster members;
-Assist in maintaining effective coordination amongst the sub-groups of the Protection Cluster;
-Assist in monitoring and documenting cases of violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, and actions taken by duty-bearers to ensure accountability, with a particular focus on settler violence;
-Contribute to effective information management and sharing, including through the use of databases, and to the analysis of key protection trends;
-Assist in the coordination of protection responses to specific cases, working in close cooperation with Protection Cluster members, relevant sub-groups of the Protection Cluster and other clusters/sectors;
-Contribute to advocacy initiatives, and to the drafting of reports, briefing notes and communications as required;
-Contribute to the mainstreaming of protection, human rights and international humanitarian law in the work of other humanitarian clusters/sectors in the oPt;
-Perform additional tasks as required.

Competencies :
Qualifications :


Education:
Advanced University degree in law, political science, international relations or other disciplines related to human rights, humanitarian affairs or development.

Experience
A minimum of 3 years progressively responsible relevant work experience, including in human rights or protection. A combination of relevant academic qualifications and 6 years extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree.
Relevant experience includes application of international human rights law and humanitarian law; involvement in humanitarian coordination mechanisms; and monitoring, documentation and analysis of human rights violations or broader human rights and protection trends.
Languages: Excellent Arabic and English (written and spoken). Knowledge of Hebrew would be an asset.

Computer skills:
Good command of computer systems and applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus Notes). Experience in the use of databases for information management and analysis is preferred.
