The U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem is seeking an individual for the position of Plumber in the General Service Office.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Incumbent performs plumbing related repairs for residential and office facilities; Installs and repairs pipes and fixtures, opens clogged drains. Installs vents and traps in the plumbing system in accordance with required codes; Performs preventive maintenance; Assists outside contractors with knowledge of facilities, operations and utilities. Cuts openings in floors and walls to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Cuts, threads and bends piping; Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes; Checks and repairs septic and drainage system leaks; Performs other general maintenance duties as assigned and directed by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  • Completion of Primary Schooling and completion of vocational training or apprenticeship in plumbing are required.
  • Two years of previous plumbing experience are required.
  • Level II (limited knowledge) in English and Level III (Good working Knowledge) in Hebrew or Arabic are required.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of septic plumbing systems.
  • Must have a class “C” driver’s license.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • EFMs who currently hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of that appointment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
  • Candidates are subject to testing for language, computer or other position related skills.
