PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE: 

IFES is currently implementing the project “Democratic Leadership Activity”. This project aims at increasing the capacity of diverse civic stakeholders to meaningfully engage in political reforms   The project will implement a series of activities targeting youth, women and other groups and strengthen their skills and knowledge to constructively engage in political processes- it will develop tailored trainings, dialogue, and technical research activities together with partners to build space for discussions on technical issues of rights and democracy.  We are in the startup phase of this project and are looking for a dynamic and creative consultant to join our team to support the implementation of program activities.  

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Program Assistant (PA) will provide programmatic assistance for this program. The position is for approximately one year, and we hope to find a right match that we can then incorporate to our team on longer term basis, pending funding and performance. The Program Assistant will work under the supervision of the Country Director with support from the Senior Program Operations Officer. The Program Assistant will assist with with the organization of workshops and meetings as well. 

The PA’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assist in organizing IFES Palestine activities such as conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings, etc.
  • Edit, format, and contribute to the drafting of IFES reports and other documents, including informational emails, operational reports, briefing materials, training materials, donor reporting, and presentations.
  • Contribute to collection and tracking of indicators and other monitoring and evaluation support.
  • Plan and expedite travel and accommodation arrangements for IFES programming throughout West Bank.
  • Assist in scheduling program meetings with partners and electoral stakeholders, maintain calendar of events.
  • Take minutes of program meetings and serve as rapporteur for program events.
  • Maintain detailed records of program activities and files, including consultant contracts, personnel files, project files, etc.
  • Provide other financial, administrative, and operational support, working closely with the IFES field team.
  • Translate written documents and provide verbal interpretation for staff.
  • Assist with special projects, research, and program development in conjunction with the needs of the project.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Job Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Commitment to promoting and protecting human rights, in particular civil and political rights as enshrined in the ICCPR; 
  • Prior experience organizing events and logistics;
  • Experience working with international NGOs, in the area of democracy and governance preferred; and
  • Working level proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including strong report writing and verbal communication skills; 
  • Willing to work as part of a small, flat hierarchies team in a dynamic programming environment.  
  • Problem-solving, “can-do” attitude and self-starting team player; 
  • Based in the West Bank and able to travel within the West Bank, as feasible.  

EDUCATION:

University degree in relevant field and/or minimum 1-3 years’ experience working with international organizations or local initiatives/non-profit organizations funded by international donors

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English required.

TRAVEL:  Travel up to 10% of time
