Program Coordinator for dvv international in the Palestinian Territories
About dvv international
dvv international is the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (in German: Institut für Internationale Zusammenarbeit des Deutschen Volkshochschulverbandes). The Association is the umbrella organisation of around 1000 community based adult education centers in Germany. It’s Institute for International Cooperation dvv international facilitates international exchange and provides expertise in the field of non-formal youth and adult education worldwide. dvv international embraces non-formal youth and adult education as an essential pillar of lifelong learning and as an effective instrument to reduce poverty and unemployment and to contribute to sustainable development.
Coordinated by its Regional Office for the Middle East in Amman (established in 2010) dvv international supports non-formal adult education and lifelong learning through providing expertise in policy development, building the capacity of adult education institutions and training of adult educators. dvv international cooperates with Ministries, education institutions and non-governemental organisations.
In 2012, dvv international will open an office in Ramallah to implement its program in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, which aims at creating viable institutions for adult education that can help people step out of poverty.
The program will be implemented in cooperation with the Palestinian NGO Juhoud for rural and community development and is mainly funded by the European Union.
Duties and responsibilities
The Program Coordinator in the Palestinian Territories will be based in Ramallah and work under direct supervision of the Regional Director for the Middle East in Amman.
Duties and responsibilities of the Program Coordinator include the following:
-supporting the Regional Office in Amman in setting up an office for dvv international in the Palestinian Territories
-recruiting, building and managing the project team (5-6 people)
-developing project ideas and preparing strategic plans for dvv international programs in Palestine
-identifying partner organisations (governmental institutions, non-governmental institutions and professional associations)
-implementing, monitoring and evaluating projects of dvv international and its partner organisations
-engaging in public relations for dvv international
-lobbying, liasing and coordinating dvv internationals work with other stakeholders
Requirements
Professional knowledge and experience
-University degree in a field relevant to education and poverty reduction
-At least five years of work experience in managing international projects (preferably EU funded
initiatives), esp. in the education sector and in capacity building
-Knowledge in program development and strategic planning
-Experience in lobbying and liasing with non-governmental and governmental partner institutions
and in public relations
- Experience in managing a team
Skills and competencies
-Analytical skills - Excellent writing skills
-Strong communication skills - Pro-active, independent working style
-Fluency in Arabic and English (written and spoken) - Knowledge of German is an asset
Please note that only applications from residents of the West Bank and/or Jerusalem will be considered. Another important precondition for the position is the ability and readiness to travel inside and outside the Palestinian Territories.
Duration: Employment is intended to start 1st of March 2012 and last for one year with a realistic chance of extending the contract.
Remuneration: Remuneration will be based on average wages and benefits in the Palestinian Territories.
