Job Title: Student Life Program Coordinator (full time position)
Duration: One year with possibility of extension
In 1972, at the request of Pope Paul VI, the late Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C., President
of the University of Notre Dame opened an international site for ecumenical research and
pastoral studies. Situated on the sovereign land of the Vatican, and situated between the
historic cities of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, this site currently houses the University of Notre
Dame at Tantur that facilitates the work of Tantur Ecumenical Institute (TEI) and the
Jerusalem Global Gateway (JGG). Located on 36 acres of land, the 130,000 square-foot
facility includes 50 bedrooms, ten apartments, multiple meeting spaces, a 70,000 volume
library, a chapel, and large dining room. The Tantur Ecumenical Institute and the Jerusalem
Global Gateway welcome students, scholars, educators, and pastoral ministers for study
rooted in the Catholic faith.
Job summary:
The Student Life Program Coordinator (SLPC) at the Jerusalem Global Gateway (JGG) is a
member of the University of Notre Dame at Tantur (UNDT) staff and lives side by side with
students at Tantur. The SLPC reports to the Student Life Program Director (SLPD) and
assists in general administration, provides pastoral care for students, and works to ensure a
healthy, safe, and vibrant learning community in collaboration with the UNDT team, Notre
Dame International (NDI) campus staff, and staff and faculty at local partner universities. The
SLPC will help support a growing study abroad program that currently serves approximately
15-30 students each fall, spring, and summer term from the University of Notre Dame main
campus in the United States. The position requires an individual who is flexible enough to
assume a variety of roles as dictated by the day to day needs of the residents. It is crucial that
this person be able to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities.
The SLPC is an important link in creating an environment in which students develop
independence and learn to live cooperatively with others while exploring the local area. The
SLPC is required to live in on-site accommodation provided for these purposes by UNDT.
This is a 12-month contract with the possibility of renewal and reports to the SLPD.
Key responsibilities:
1- ADMINISTRATION
● Provide on-site support for NDI Study Abroad programming, including coordinating
significant aspects of the academic program with partner universities such as student
application and registration processes, logistical support related to student travel for
academic and cultural immersion purposes, and programmatic support (especially
coordination of academic courses) for extracurricular programming in the local area
and region.
Collaborate with the SLPD for on-site orientation, residential living, health and safety
protocols, as well as providing logistical assistance to faculty members teaching at the
JGG. Share leadership responsibilities with the SLPD and faculty in the planning and
leading of extracurricular and academic cultural immersion trips.
2- PASTORAL LEADER
● Serve as a team member for the residential life of all undergraduate students at JGG,
and support the SLPD related to enforcing community standards and supporting the
physical, psychological, spiritual, and other wellness needs of students. Assist in
planning/leading group discussions related to student academic, cultural, and spiritual
formation and integration.
● May be called upon to support or provide prayer and spiritual enrichment
opportunities for students, including retreats and days of reflection. Model and
support the development of an inclusive and safe community for undergraduate
students participating in the JGG programming, and other programming as part of the
wider UNDT team.
● Responsible for on-call duties at designated times, and assist with any health or
security emergencies as they arise.
3- COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTOR
● Responsible for a limited amount of marketing, communication and event tasks,
story-telling on behalf of the TEI and JGG, and social media outreach. Serve as an
ambassador for the University of Notre Dame at Tantur events, guests, and special
programming. Support Tantur and JGG events such as Tuesdays@Tantur as needed.
● Assist campus Study Abroad staff in the recruitment of Notre Dame students for all of
the NDI undergraduate programs at the JGG. This includes supporting the campus
Study Abroad team with information and pre-departure sessions, assist in
coordinating the visa process for participating students, as well as supporting and
mentoring students during the application process in collaboration with campus Study
Abroad colleagues.
● Respond to emergencies at the JGG involving students, faculty, and guests, and help
to lead the JGG's overall health and safety policies and protocol in alignment with the
policies and protocol of NDI and the University's Campus Safety department.
4- HOURS OF WORK
● The SLPC’s schedule includes regular duty and on-call hours and this will include an
average of 2-3 evenings of duty per week (from 8pm-12am), and 2-3 evenings of
on-call hours from (12am-8am). During duty and on-call hours the SLPC must be
reachable by phone at all times.
● The SLPC will be required to be present for arrival and orientation of each program,
as well as the program departure days. The SLPC may be called upon to plan and
accompany students on daytrips and overnight trips for academic or extracurricular
purposes.
● When JGG students are not in residence, the SLPC is still required to be in residence
and available for work; however, duty nights and on call responsibilities will be
determined by the SLPD depending upon the situation.
● The SLPC will be required to attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings
and other meetings with UNDT staff as necessary during daytime hours.

Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree required.
● Legal authorization to work in Palestine/israel.
● Skills in basic IT (MS Office, Google Suite, etc.)
● Ability to prioritize, work well under pressure, and adapt to new situations
● Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, and ability to build
strong, collaborative relationships
● Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
● Ability to be flexible and exercise sound judgment
● Respect the need for confidentiality and sensitivity of information
● Hospitable, customer-centered, and team-oriented
● Preferred knowledge of student life issues and Catholic higher education mission and
values
● Excellent written and verbal English, preferred native fluency in either/both Hebrew
and Arabic
● Experience/interest in working with US students in the context of international
education
Pay: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include furnished
accommodations (private room and bath) and three meals each day.
