Programme Advisor on Sport for Development

Field of Activity:

The sport for development sector programme is implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Its core tasks include advisory services to BMZ, coordinating the relevant German actors, and initiating and implementing programs in several countries including the Palestinian Territories. It aims to use sport to help achieve development goals in a range of areas (e.g. promotion of employability) rather than to promote sport. However, as an instrument, sport should be taken seriously and deployed with the appropriate expertise.

 

The field staff member will be supporting in implementing the programme in the Palestinian Territories. The goal of the programme is to strengthen vocational education and training possibilities and make them more attractive to Palestinian youth.

Responsibilities & tasks include but not limited to:

The Programme Advisor will be responsible for the following tasks:

-Implementing daily organizational and operational aspects of all issues related to the Sport for development programme (Project Management)

-Design, preparation and implementation of capacity development workshops for e.g. coaches, social workers, counsellors

-Design, preparation and implementation of sport events to attract youth to the possibilities of vocational professions

-Development of teaching materials connecting Sport and Vocational Training

-Development of communication materials and writing articles, e.g. social media outlets

-Close internal cooperation within GIZ, mainly within the Cluster Sustainable Economic Development (SED), responsibility for cross-cutting issues as Gender, Youth etc.

-Follow-up and support on the M&E of the programme activities and with partners

-Promotion of the cooperation between Ministries, NGOs, Universities and schools

Job Requirements

-Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social or economic sciences, sport sciences or a related field.

-Able to support the implementation of relevant and innovative concepts, cooperating with representatives of government institutions, universities and NGOs.

-Relevant experience of working in international cooperation or/and in a youth related context is a precondition.

-Conceptual and educational skills to implement the programme.

-Experience with GIZ structures and processes are an important asset.

-Experiences in administration.

-Knowledge in the field of sport for development and sport structures are an asset.

-Ability to work in teams, good communication and networking skills, flexibility and passion about sport.

-Ability to travel within the Palestinian Territories.

-Fluent Business English skills; fluent German and Arabic skills are an asset.
