Project Accountant
Chemonics International seeks a Project Accountant for a newly awarded, USAID-funded project promoting economic growth in the West Bank and Gaza through expanded economic development, trade, commerce, and applied research. The five-year project has three main objectives:
- Objective 1: Facilitate Cooperative Exchange and Knowledge Sharing
- Objective 2: Foster New Markets
- Objective 3: Enhance the Capacity of Targeted Entities

The project accountant is responsible for supporting the finance manager in planning, managing, and implementing all aspects of the projects’ accounting systems and maintaining an accounting database. In addition, they will assist with collecting and recording all information that will facilitate information exchange and dissemination to the Chemonics' D.C. office.
Specific roles and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the maintenance of a proper accounting system, including handling vendors’ and suppliers’ accounts and invoices; preparing checks, receipts, journals, and working/tracking papers as needed; and entering data of approved vouchers into ABACUS- the Chemonics project office accounting system
- Assisting with the maintenance of accounting records and files, ensuring program administrative financial documents have appropriate supporting material; updating records as necessary; and keeping all financial and sensitive information confidential
- Assisting with the review of cash balances, preparation of payroll and cash/bank reconciliation; maintenance of ABACUS records; and preparation of monthly project locals according to project guidelines
- Track sub ledger balances, including receivable accounts for individual staff ensuring that outstanding travel advances are settled before issuing new advances; for vehicle mileage and personal telephone use, prepare invoices on a monthly basis
- Assisting with the analysis and control of daily costs and cash flow, as well as the preparation of the monthly VAT and sub-award reports to USAID
- Adhering to international accounting standards, agreements, general finance discipline, or the integrity of the Program
- Other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager and/or Director of Operations

Basic qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
- Certification of Chartered Accountants or local equivalent desirable
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with USAID or other donor funded experience desirable
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
- Excellent computer skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in Arabic required and proficiency in English preferred with excellent oral and written communication skills
