Project Accountant
Overview
Wefaq is an independent and non-profit Palestinian NGO with the purpose of protecting and empowering vulnerable women and children including those with disabilities survivors of GBV through women protection and empowerment, child and family protection program, and communication and advocacy program. While implementing its strategy to fulfil its vision, Wefaq is guided by international human rights principles including equity, equality, non-discrimination, empowerment and participation, accountability, and focus on vulnerable groups.
Wefaq is seeking a Project Accountant for the (ILEED) project, Wefaq society for Women and Child Care in partnership with Global Communities implementing USAID Improve Livelihoods and Enhance Economic Development (ILEED). This project will focus on promoting resilient livelihoods in Gaza Strip and give households the tools they need to cope with recurrent crises. ILEED will engage both the demand and supply actors within the conflict affected market system. Programs and activities will support the production of and access to basic products and services that community entrepreneurs are already engaged in producing and providing, as well as encourage community entrepreneurs to fill critical service gaps with localized solutions. ILEED will also work to increasing access to resources and basic commodities to support community development and resilience.
WEFAQ is seeking highly skilled staff to assume the following responsibilities
Roles and Key Responsibilities
The ability to deal with accounting programs like Al Aseel and Microsoft office programs
Preparing and following up on employees’ monthly salaries and suppliers’ expenses
Collecting information and financial data, analyzing them, and submitting the necessary recommendations to the official
The ability to compare the actual expenditure with the work plan followed by the project
Preparing the estimated budget for the project’s activities
Participation of the Procurement Department regarding the implementation of supplies
Preparing monthly financial reports and submitting them to the official
Preparing and following up on activities and disbursements for the project
Preparing and processing transactions and archiving them electronically for submission to the financier
Registering fixed assets and entering it to reveal the inventory of fixed assets and the ability to calculate depreciation according to followed accounting principles
Follow up on the petty cash statement and disbursement mechanisms
Preparing bank reconciliations
The ability to prepare daily records for the crisis and record them in accordance with followed accounting principles
Filling of all entries and ensure that all required documents are attached to each entry
Maintain financial files and oversee annual audits
Prepare bank reconciliations on a weekly basis
Prepare monthly VAT reports, donor reports, and other requested reports
Maintain sound financial management systems in line with USAID rules and regulations and WEFAQ’ policies and procedures, and accounting principles
Assist in managing the project budget ensuring all costs incurred by the program are accounted for and in compliance with USAID, WEFAQ and applicable local laws

Follow up on the registration of fixed assets under the project
The ability to prevent accounting and financial errors
Follow up on purchasing procedures in accordance with established policies
Participate in preparing project budgets and the association’s annual budget
Auditing and reviewing bank accounts and matching them with exchange operations
Conducting training for the financial management crisis
The ability to develop established financial procedures

Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accountant, Finance, or a relevant field
A minimum of 5 years of experience in similar position for a local or an international organization
Demonstrated experience and understanding of relevant local laws, regulations and policies is required
Experience with generally accepted accounting practices and principles
Excellent command of excel and other database applications
Computer/word processing and standard office software skills
Knowledge of USAID donor regulations
Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
