Project Assistant, ICLA
Ramallah, West Bank

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) re-established its presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories in January 2009 and is developing programme activities in the sectors of shelter and the provision of information, counselling and legal assistance (ICLA). The long term objective of the programme is to contribute to improved protection and living conditions for refugees and internally displaced persons in the OPT.

The ICLA programme is concentrating on providing legal assistance, particularly related to housing, land and property issues, for those displaced or facing displacement in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. 

The ICLA programme requires a Project Assistant to assist with the administrative and logistical operation of the ICLA West Bank project from the Ramallah office. The Project Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and will work closely with the West Bank Legal Advisor and Field Officer.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
The Project Assistant is primarily responsible for the day to day administrative and operational needs of the Ramallah office and West Bank ICLA project.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
-Responsible for all general administrative duties necessary for the efficient running of the Ramallah office, including working closely with the head office finance and administration staff on issues such as procurement and logistics;
-Responsible for all administrative tasks specifically related to the ICLA project including assisting ICLA staff in arranging workshops, seminars and trainings; liaising with the project assistant in East Jerusalem, liaising with local suppliers; making follow up phone calls; coordination with beneficiaries, partners and local lawyers as required; arranging meetings, and attending and taking meeting minutes as required; translation and interpretation as required.
-Responsible for  updating and maintaining a client database and assisting with monthly reports;
-Taking legal aid referrals by telephone and ensuring all relevant information is obtained and forwarded to the legal team in a timely manner;
-Drafting letters and correspondence as required;
-Accompanying ICLA staff on field visits as required;
-Carry out other relevant duties as requested by the Supervisor.

2- Skills and Qualifications Required.
-Qualified holder of a relevant administration or related certification with a minimum of 3 years work experience. Experience working for a non-governmental organisation is an advantage.
-Excellent command of Arabic and English both written and oral. Knowledge of Hebrew is an advantage.
-Ability to work under pressure.
-Ability to work in a team.

Contract period:6 months, with possible extension
Salary/benefits:According to NRC’s general directions pay commessurate with experience and benefits provided.
