JOB TITLE:

Project Co-Coordinator, ‘Protecting Groundwater Recharge Zones’,

SUMMARY OF PRINCIPAL RESPONSBILITIES:
Under the Direction of the WEDO Director and the Groundwater Project Manager, the Palestinian Project Co- Coordinator for the “Protecting Groundwater Recharge Zones” will be required to oversee all aspects of the project including: co-developing strategic action plans to advance project aims, coordinating with local and regional consultants, coordinating and leading workshops to local activists and municipal staff, local media outreach, project reporting and other duties as necessary. The co-coordinator will work in coordination with the Spanish, Israeli, and Jordanian Coordinators and the local staff, as needed.

Tasks include:
-Conducting consultations with municipal staff and community members in the “Good Water Neighbors” communities and with key stakeholders to identify priority environmental hazards and the initiatives to prevent them, focusing on critical threats to the groundwater.
-Refining the project plan based on community consultations and plan activities accordingly.
-Managing & accompanying the training of municipal staff in the FoEME GWN ommunities in coordination with FoEME local staff at those municipalities.
-Plan, co-lead and coordinate cross border activities on the shared topics of water, sanitation, agriculture, GIS, and any other related fields.
-Report on activities and collect information for reporting.
-Contribute to other organizational projects as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific an comprehensive information supporting each item.
-Academic Degrees (Masters is an advantage) is required in Hydrology/Geology/Water/Environment/Sustainable Development/ GIS or a related field.
-Excellent written and spoken Arabic and fluency in English is mandatory. Other languages are an advantage.
-At least 3 years work experience at the municipal level in the environmental field and/or community development.
Grassroots community organizing experience is a benefit.
-Understanding of regional water challenges and policies.
-Ability and willingness to travel regionally.
-Excellent inter-personal and leadership skills.
-Ability to work under pressure and in a multitask environment.
-Good understanding in the fields of Water/Sewage/Solid Waste Management and of the overall environmental situation in the region.
-Motivated for cross border activities, including peace building and environmental activities. Experience working in a cross-border/multilateral framework is an advantage.
-A deep understanding of Middle East water/environment politics and peace process issues.
-Good computer skills.
-Resident of the Bethlehem area or willingness to move and settle in Bethlehem.
