Job Description
Local Development through the Rehabilitation and Revitalization of the Historic Environment in Palestine
Job ID/Title: Project Coordinator
Duty Station: Ramallah (with frequent visits to project sites and partners in the WB and Gaza
if situation permits)
Starting Date: 1 November 2012
Duration of Initial Contract: 6 months renewable up to 30 months
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office and the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist for Culture, the following duties will be assumed:
-Coordinate the project through day-to-day management in accordance with the approved work plan and budget as well as identify delays, bottlenecks and other challenges, and propose mitigation strategies.
-Liaise with Sida and work closely with the four partnering organizations, to ensure an effective implementation of the project, namely the execution of the foreseen activities in a timely manner, meeting the criteria of effective monitoring, including but not limited to participation in field visits and annual reviews as well as the transparent disbursement of funds.
-Prepare written status reports on a quarterly basis, the Annual Results Progress Report, financial reports and completion report, for submission to the donor, in addition to other reports required for the project which shall be developed in cooperation with the Monitoring Consultant.
-Ensure adequate communication and flow of information between all stakeholders.
Professional skills and qualifications
-Experience in implementation of cultural heritage conservation projects in the oPt, in particular donorfunded projects and/or UN projects. Experience in UNESCO-led projects is an asset.
-Understanding of project cycle and log-frame design including administration and financial management.
-Analytical and management skills, including strategic planning, results-based management and report writing.
-Knowledge of the Palestinian context, including civil society (e.g. NGOs), in particular Cultural Heritage related issues.
-Proven ability working in a team particularly in a multi-cultural and multi-stakeholder setting, from national government to grass-root levels.
-Ability to focus on results for the beneficiaries and respond positively to feedback.
Education and Experience
University Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Cultural Heritage Studies and related fields. Advanced university degree in Urban Planning/Architectural Conservation is an asset.
Experience:
Minimum 6 years of professional experience in safeguarding of cultural heritage at the national or
international level, preferably with the UN.
Strong IT skills.
Both English and Arabic are strongly desirable.
