Proposal Writer and Business Development Coordinator
War Child is an independent and impartial international non-governmental child rights organization investing in a peaceful future for children and young people affected by armed conflict. The general objective of the job
The Proposal Writer and Business Development Coordinator will report to the oPt Head of Programme Quality & Development and will be responsible for taking the lead on new proposals development with partners. This includes bid planning, identifying funding opportunities aligned with WC (War Child) country strategy and funding plan, as well as mapping donors. The role also involves taking the lead in developing program concept notes and proposals primarily focusing on institutional donor funding, for the oPt Office.
Donor Mapping and Relationship Building
- Mapping out the donor landscape and support in building relationships with new donors.
- Lead engagement plans with potential donors, organize, and execute outreach efforts, including arranging meetings, presentations, and events to introduce the organization, its programs, and funding needs for potential donors.
- Research and compile a comprehensive list of potential donors relevant to the organization's mission and projects.
- Develop and maintain a structured database containing detailed information on potential donors, including contact details, funding priorities, and historical giving patterns.
- Foster regular communication with donors through regular updates, newsletters, and relevant information to keep them informed about the organization's activities.
- Assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with engaging specific donors to tailor communication and engagement strategies.
- Explore the interests of current and prospective donors and to identify new sources of institutional giving that are aligned with War Child's priorities.
- Present War Child's successes, methods, and interventions in different grant-related forums.
- Facilitate donor visits effectively with the program leads.
Proposal Writing and Project Initiation
- Regularly review and identify potential funding opportunities aligned with the organization's mission and priorities, facilitate go/no-go decisions based on program priorities and profiles.
- Create a proposal calendar outlining deadlines, milestones, and responsibilities to ensure timely submission.
- Collaborate with relevant departments and local partners to form a proposal team, assigning tasks and responsibilities.
- Clearly articulate project objectives, outcomes, and impact in alignment with the funding agency's goals
- Lead in devloping a detailed project narrative, addressing all components required by the funding agency and showcasing the organization's capacity to execute the project.
- Conduct thorough reviews and edits to ensure the proposal is well-written, error-free, and aligns with the organization's narrative and mission.
- Manage the submission process, ensuring all required documents are included and submitted within the specified deadline.
- Ensure full understanding of Donor requirements (e.g. as articulated in the Terms of Reference or other documentation).
- Collaborate closely with the Finance teams for budgeting and reporting and with NGOs to prepare competitive proposal budgets in established formats meeting donor requirements, ensuring support costs are fully represented as per approved CO ratios.
- Support the effective handover of the new projects to the Programme Implementation team; ensuring that they fully understand the goals and targets of the project.
- Ensure full compliance with donor requirements, serving as an internal point of reference for program staff to address donor compliance, activities, and any necessary changes.
Relationships & Engagement:
- Foster effective internal and external collaboration with colleagues based in different hubs and relevant regional and global staff.
- Contribute to training and capacity-building initiatives for partner organizations in resource mobilization and proposal writing, as required.
- Coordinate the partnership portfolio, including identification of new partners and retention of old partners, leading the partner due diligence process, and engaging partners on the development of partnership agreements with clear alignment to donor requirements.
- Foster productive relationships with peers in other NGOs, exploring partnership opportunities, such as consortia.
- Develop fundraising communication material to use in donors' visits or to use for publicity.

Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in international development, non-profit management, business, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of proven experience in resource mobilization, proposal development, and fundraising within the non-profit sector.
- Strong understanding of the Palestinian context and funding landscape is a distinct advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong research and analytical skills for identifying funding opportunities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and partners.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in using fundraising software and platforms.
- Strong ethical and professional standards in fundraising.
