Background on ACTED
ACTED is an international NGO registered in France. ACTED’s vocation is to support vulnerable populations affected by wars, natural disasters and/or economic and social crises, and to accompany them in building a better future. ACTED started its activities in the occupied Palestinian territory in May 2007, through food security interventions in the West Bank and then in Gaza. ACTED is currently implementing projects funded by ECHO, European Union member States, the HRP and Europe Aid, which aim to protect vulnerable households in the West Bank and to strengthen civil society actors across the occupied Palestinian territory.

ACTED strives to strengthen the economic capacities of cooperatives in rural areas, consolidate civil society organisations, and provide emergency assistance to the most vulnerable, rural communities in the West Bank and Gaza.
Position Profile
The Protection Assistant will support the emergency and protection department in implementing ACTED protection activities. She/he will coordinate with ACTED partners and other duty bearers to ensure an efficient response to the urgent humanitarian needs in the targeted communities. The Protection Assistant will closely work with the protection officer to track each incident, conduct need assessment for affected individuals and families and provide them with an appropriate response. Also, She/He will contribute in identifying and reporting the communities’ protection needs to the relevant actors.
Responsibilities
Ensuring a close follow-up of protection incidents
- Undertaking immediate field trips (within 24 hours maximum) after each protection incident within the area of ACTED’s project;
- Following an evidence-based approach to ensure adequate investigation, data collection and documentation (incident report, photos of damages or injuries, medical report, complaints, etc…) of all protection incidents occurring in the area of ACTED’s project;
- In close collaboration with ACTED’s consortium partner; ensuring a detailed needs assessment (per affected household when necessary) after each protection incident to determine the most appropriate integrated and coordinated response to be provided;
- Maintaining and strengthening the rapid response mechanism in place, in particular ensuring a proper data management system to specifically monitoring the continuum incident-assessment-response;
- Ensuring appropriate outputs of the Community Eyes Watch (CEW) activities under the responsibility of ACTED, this including monthly meeting with the formed CEW, as well as training of the newly formed CEW;
Implementing the community-based protection approach
- Ensuring appropriate outputs of the community profiling activities under the responsibility of ACTED. This includes performing Protection Vulnerability Index (PVI) data collection exercises, implementing other tools in the communities (risk maps, legal mapping, transect walks, etc.) and drafting Community Protection Response plans (PRP);
- Conducting focus group discussions and individual interviews with local communities in area C of West Bank and East Jerusalem;
- Contributing to identify the protection needs and the response plans for vulnerable communities and vulnerable groups in area C of west bank and East Jerusalem;
Documentation and filing
- Ensuring soft and hard copy filing for all forms or reports submitted, duly named, and saved on the server;
- Updating the incidents database on a regular basis;
- Submitting monthly and ad hoc reports on time to the Protection Officer;
- Preparing, attending and keeping minutes of internal and external meetings attended;
Supporting other program activities on demand:
When necessary and requested by the Protection Officer and/or Emergency Project Manager, conducting field visits, assessments, monitoring, and delivery of aid material to communities;
Perform any other duties requested by the Protection Officer and/or the Emergency Project Manager.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Social science, Sociology, Community Development or any related field.
-At least 1 year of experience in social field works, protection related fields and community-based approach.
-Previous work experience with NGOs / INGOs is a plus.
-Good research skills.
-Good knowledge in human rights field, and gender related issues .
-Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility.
-Strong ability to work independently, organize work, meet deadlines.
-Professional attitude, good social skills, and ability to work in a team.
-Excellent in Arabic and English, spoken and written.
Additional requirements:
-Proficient knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint…).
-Valid Driving license
