CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND
Secours Islamique France (SIF) is a Non-Governmental Organization of international solidarity based in France. Founded in 1991, SIF is a non-profit and non-political organization that intends to help, to bring relief and to protect the lives of those threatened by natural disasters, armed conflicts or by economic collapse. SIF provides its help in respect of cultural diversity, without any distinction of origin, religion, or gender. SIF Palestine Mission was established in 2008 and since then, it has set up many concrete activities to help in a large scale and developed a comprehensive knowledge of the local context and understanding of local needs.

Position Overview
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Psycho-Social Worker to join our team for a 12-month intervention focused on mitigating and preventing the impact of violence on children and young adults in the refugee camps of Balata and Askar in Nablus Governorate. As a Psycho-Social Worker, you will play a pivotal role in providing essential mental health support and psychosocial assistance to individuals and families affected by violence. This position requires a compassionate and culturally sensitive approach, as well as close collaboration with project partners, community members, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Assessment and Identification
- Collaborate with local acroters and community members to conduct thorough assessments and identify individuals, especially children and young adults, at heightened risk of mental and psychosocial distress due to exposure to violence.
- Implement a culturally sensitive and inclusive approach to ensure a comprehensive understanding of individual needs and challenges.
Counseling and Support
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to children, adolescents, and families affected by violence, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
- Address trauma, stress, and emotional distress by fostering a safe and confidential space for individuals to express themselves and process their experiences.
Capacity Building
- Conduct capacity-building sessions for identified groups, including children, young adults, and families, with a focus on building resilience and effective coping mechanisms.
- Collaborate with community volunteers to facilitate peer support groups, encouraging emotional expression and mutual assistance.
Collaboration and Referral
- Work closely with the Project Officer and other project team members to ensure seamless coordination of activities.
- Establish a robust referral mechanism to ensure the timely and appropriate referral of individuals at risk to specialized services.
Community Engagement
- Engage with the community to raise awareness about mental health, psychosocial well-being, and available support services.
- Organize community events and activities that promote positive social interactions and emotional well-being.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and interventions.
- Prepare regular reports on the progress of mental health and psychosocial support activities.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology or psychological counselling from a recognized university.
- Minimum two years of experience in working on similar projects is preferred, working with international/local development and relief organizations, preferably in the country of assignment; focusing on emergency response and community work and project implementation.
- Proven experience in providing mental health and psychosocial support in humanitarian or conflict-affected settings.
- Strong understanding of the cultural context and dynamics of refugee camps.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Position based in Nablus with regular travels to the field in all West Bank governorates and exceptional travels (based on the need) to SIF Ramallah Office if possible and respecting specific travel requirements.
