MSF-Belgium is currently seeking to hire PSYCHOLOGIST
Main Purpose
Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health.
Accountabilities
- Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition
- Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
- Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions
- Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions
- Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities
- Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
- Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

Be part of the MHPSS team, participating in daily activities, including meetings and supervisions.

Take part in multidisciplinary team meetings, being able to take part in English discussions.

Participate in the multidisciplinary approach of patients, including the implementation of different protocols, such as pain management, pre-op assessments and follow up OPD trauma patients, nutritional project.

Conduct psychological assessments and follow-ups to patients’ adults and children inside the MSF program.

Conduct MH awareness sessions and Psycho-social group activities adjusted to the beneficiaries needs.

Participate in the mass casualities plan and carry out PFA after critical events.

Identify and refer social, and medical needs including psychiatric care needs to respective departments and actors.

Lead different psycho-social activities in compliance with the MHPSS MSF guidelines.

Support medical team when they need to inform to the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness/injuries and the treatment plan.

The psychologist might be asked to implement the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.

Assist and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary to enhance the scope of MH activities.

Fill clinical files following MSF Data Collection guidelines and deliver weekly reports of activities.

Job Requirements
Education:
- Desirable master’s degree or High diploma in clinical psychology or Mental Health.

Essential degree or diploma in Psychology or related.
Experience :
- Essential 2 years experience minimum as a Psychologist or in Mental Health activities.
- MSF's experience or in other international organizations is an advantage.
- Desirable experience with working both with adults and children.
- Expertise in chronic pain management and trauma is an asset.
- Experience with interdisciplinary teams is an asset.
- Experience in health facilities is an asset.
Languages:
Fluently in English orally and in writing (essential).
Demonstrated Competencies:
- Good communication skills and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and clients.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Adequate computer skills.
- Self-motivated and willing to learn from others.
- Acts in accordance with professional ethics and values.
Additional:
As per MOH directives, MOH staff cannot apply.
