Public Health Specialist registries
The WHO office for West Bank and Gaza is recruiting a national project team to start the work of establishing the Institute and build up its initial core functions. We are currently recruiting for six temporary posts. Brief descriptions of these posts are below. Inquiries and Applications must be submitted by June 20, 2012 to [email protected]. Organizational Context
Under the supervision of the WHO Head of Office and the Project Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the specified assigned duties described below in collaboration with the rest of the project team.
The incumbent will be based at the new premises for the PNIPH in Ramallah, West Bank, but will have extensive contact with the WHO office in Jerusalem and with other stakeholders to carry out the functions.
Purpose of the Post
- To strengthen public health surveillance systems and registries
Description of duties
The incumbent will perform the following duties
- Lead the work in describing, assessing and suggesting improvements of the public health surveillance systems and registries
- Assess, maintain and further develop surveillance systems for the Institute
- Participate in the development of the core functions of the Institute, providing technical guidance and support and high quality outputs
- Perform research and tutor others on public health issues
- Initiate the further development of public health functions at the Institute
Duration of contract
- Temporary appointment for 12 months with a possibility of extension
Recruitment Profile
Education
Essential:
- Masters Degree in public health or epidemiology or health statistics or related field
Desirable:
- PhD in one of the above subjects
- Medical Doctor

- Excellent knowledge of statistics and informatics in public health

- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills and cultural sensitivity
Other skills (e.g. IT):
- MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Preferably also statistical programmes like STATA, SPSS, R or other
Experience
Essential:
- At least 5 years of work experience combined at national and/or international level in the field of public health.
Desirable:
- Experience in running or working with public health surveillance systems and registries
