Save the Children is the world's leading independent organization for children. We work in almost 120 countries. We save children's lives; we fight for their rights; we help them fulfill their potential. We work to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.
Our current program works in partnerships with local organizations to safeguard children’s rights, focused primarily in the areas of participation, education, livelihood, youth development, health and protection, civil society development, emergency response, and food security, SC has established strong partnerships with local and regional actors.
With funding from Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Save the Children in close coordination with its local partner Save You Future Society (SYFS), implemented “Integrated community-based early recovery model for enhancement of children’s well-being and access to quality education” Nov. 2014 – Oct. 2015 to Enhance children’s return to schooling that provides them with safe and quality learning and opportunities to recover from the war trauma.
The proposed interventions utilize a community-based approach to fulfill the program objectives; working holistically to support children in overcoming the obstacles they face in returning to both basic and early childhood education, and their wider ability to experience a sense of normalcy and hope. The beginning phases of the program in the first quarter of implementation will further map, assess and plan for the selected communities, CBOs, schools and KGs, to ensure SC's interventions are best utilizing the existing resources and reaching children most in need. Project staff will be trained and management systems put in place alongside ME&R and communications plans. SC can further coordinate with cluster systems and other local and international stakeholders to ensure effective interventions in each community, supported by results from the baseline evaluation. From this, the establishment/ running of Temporary Learning Centers (TLC) and Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) will be implemented in the first two quarters, including the rehabilitation and equipping of facilities, the recruitment and training of community volunteers and the provision of educational materials. This intervention correlates with our existing Inclusive Education Project in Gaza (NORAD) and further complements our cross-sectoral programming in Education and Child Protection by providing safe, inclusive educational facilities for children in emergencies. Teachers will also be trained on psycho-social first aid for children, building their capacity to respond to the immediate needs of children and building their capacity for potential future emergencies
