Job VACANCY – RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY OFFICER
Organisation: Defence for Children International–Palestine Section (DCI-Palestine)
Position: Research and Advocacy Officer (funding available for 3 years)
Location: Ramallah, Palestine

Working directly under the supervision of the Accountability Programme Coordinator, the Research and Advocacy Officer will liaise with the Monitoring and Documentation staff and the Translator to produce high quality advocacy material on Palestinian child rights violations in the English language; she/he will assist Advocacy Officers in their activities and also be responsible for conducting specific advocacy projects at international level.
Main responsibilities
- Monitor English language media, UN, NGO and academic reports on a daily basis to identify new developments affecting children in the West Bank and Gaza.
o Liaise with DCI staff and external partners (NGO and UN) to share information on violation incidents, and facilitate data reconciliation.
- Review and edit translation of victim and eyewitness testimonies.
- Analyse new violation incidents within their political context and with reference to previously recorded incidents in order to identify trends.
- In consultation with Advocacy Officers, produce statements, press releases, case studies and reports on violations of Palestinian children’s rights.
- Update the website with relevant news, data, and reports on Palestinian children’s rights and the work of the Accountability Programme.
- Assist in the production of video material on Palestinian children’s rights.
- Contribute to UN and EU advocacy (UN Treaty Bodies, Special Procedures of the Human
Rights Council, EU member states and institutions, etc).
- Assist in the planning of advocacy tours; contribute to strategic advocacy decisions.
- Assist in the development of a media strategy.
- Lead specific international advocacy projects to be defined according to the skills and experience of the Research and Advocacy Officer.
Person specifications
• Essential: Master’s Degree in human rights, development, international affairs or a related field of the social sciences.
• Essential: Minimum two years of relevant work experience in human rights monitoring, research, communication or advocacy.
• Essential: Excellent English writing and editing skills; ability to write clear, concise
and well-structured reports on human rights issues in English.
• Essential: Good organisational skills; ability to work under pressure and as part of a
team; willingness to work long hours when required.
• Essential: Fluent written and spoken English.
• Essential: Excellent computer skills.
• Essential: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Essential: Ability to work in an intercultural environment.
• Desirable: Knowledge of child rights issues and International Humanitarian Law.
