School Principal
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of School
INTERFACES WITH: Faculty, students, parents, colleagues and the general School community
SUPERVISES: Assigned faculty and support services personnel
JOB GOAL:
To provide strong leadership by demonstrating exemplary management skills in the recruitment and development of faculty, the implementation of a high quality curriculum, the assurance of long-term school financial stability, the provision of effective communication with all the School’s constituents and the commitment to a strategic planning process.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
-To commit for the successful implementation of the School’s Board-approved Strategic Plan and the full implementation of the IB programs.
-To ensure that all coordinators, teachers and support staff have a clear understanding of their performance expectations (i.e. job descriptions and faculty handbook); to assist faculty toward becoming “master teachers.”
-To establish a willingness to be a “mentor” to all faculty as well as encouraging their professional growth and career advancement.
-To demonstrate role-model traits that enable others to recognize the principal as a leader of leaders.
-To maintain positive community relations by keeping abreast of the changing environment, accepting input from others and participating in appropriate community associations.
-To communicate effectively with students, faculty, parents, colleagues and in the community (i.e. verbal, nonverbal and written communication)
-To seek the involvement of faculty and parents in a wide variety of School activities; to actively promote and support the parent volunteer program.
-To develop the leadership capabilities of teachers so that instructional leadership becomes a shared responsibility.
-To demonstrate leadership in education by participating in curriculum development and by staying informed on all matters of education.
-To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of business and finance by being informed of physical plant needs, by monitoring budget of the school and keeping the Superintendent informed regarding financing needs and by assisting in identifying, planning and implementing long-term financial stability.
-To ensure that curriculum documentation spells out what the students are to learn and what the teacher should be teaching.
-To gather validating information that helps determine whether curriculum and instructional goals and student performance outcomes are being met.
-To create an efficient, productive and caring building atmosphere where all students (and faculty) have opportunity to be recognized for their best efforts.
-To ensure that all of the School’s resources are identified and being used to serve students and faculty members alike; help both to reach their full performance potential.
-To oversee the students’ admission process for the whole school in accordance with policies established by the Board and policy implementing regulations.
-To ensure a smooth transition from the Elementary Section to the Secondary Section in terms of educational programs, teaching strategies and assessment methods.
-To be able to successfully manage the parent and faculty political pressures that will come with the assignment.
-To have a personal commitment to seek constant professional learning and professional growth; to also be a life-long learner.
-To accept the importance and necessity in attending after school student activity programs and parent events.
-To willingly take on all responsibility for the “mechanics” of the assignment; activities such as building a master class schedule, accurate record keeping, office accounting, etc.
-To be a willing and active participant in School’s steering committee and be supportive of their colleagues.
-To supervise the establishment of annual work objectives and action plans that are consistent with the School’s Strategic Plan.
-To oversee the performance evaluation of all faculty and staff at the school.
-To perform other responsibilities and duties as might be required for the general welfare of the School and/or as requested by the Superintendent.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated by the Superintendent of School in accordance with provisions in Board policy and the implementing regulations for that policy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-Current appropriate teacher and principal certification.
-Masters’ Degree.
-Experience in school administration (minimum of 3 years).
-Demonstrated successful leadership, organization and management skills.
-Knowledge of and experience with the IB program would be an asset.
-Bilingualism English/Arabic as well as knowledge of a 3rd language would be seen as an asset.
-Experience in identifying resources, recruiting faculty, personnel management, budget and finance.
-Communication and public relations skills.
