Job Title Senior Development Officer–Grant Writer
Department:Development Office
Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Vice President for Development

Job Objective/ Summary:

Desiring to generate funding support for its new and existing programs and projects that are expanding service of the Palestinian community, Bethlehem University seeks a creative,successful, results-oriented and experienced Senior Development Officer and Grant Writer.
As a senior member of the staff of the Development Office, the primary responsibility of the Senior Development Officer position is to seek funding for Bethlehem University through grants from the EU / USAID, development cooperation offices, foundations, and other funding organizations. The Senior Development Officer also participates in strategic planning for the overall fundraising needs of Bethlehem University and manages relations with a number of major individual and organizational donors.
While the first preference is for a full-time Bethlehem University employee, alternative working arrangements (e.g., part-time on site at the University and part-time elsewhere) are possible and negotiable. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1-Write and submit grant proposals and project completion reports to funders with assistance from
the Grants Comptroller for financial matters and the Project Managers for project impact matters –
and assist faculty in doing the same.
2-Initiate and cultivate relationships with current and new potential donors, conducting prospect research on individuals and organizations and maintaining up-to-date files on funding
organizations and their personnel.
3-Actively cultivate funding support from and perform follow-up recognition for major individual and organizational donors.
4-Receive, record, and process grants – ensuring that donor data is managed accurately, donors are acknowledged in a timely and professional manner, and appropriate promotional articles
highlighting outcomes of grants are produced.

Periodic Duties and Responsibilities:
1-Publish a comprehensive listing and maintain a file of all funding proposals submitted on behalf of Bethlehem University and assist faculty in observing the Grant and Contracts Policy.
2-Maintain hard copy and electronic files of grant and donor communications.
3-Assist with
a-the design, implementation, and analysis of the annual appeals.
b-hosting pilgrim and other groups, especially those involving significant donors.
c-graduation, academic convocations, and other major university events with a focus on enhancing the profile and connection with donors and the University
4-Produce monthly reports of grant and other donor activity completed (including listing of new donors and lapsed donors) and planned for the coming month, including metrics on revenue generated and comparisons from year to year
5-Participate in regular team meetings, various committees, and perform other related duties as
required and requested.

Special Working Conditions:
1-Occasional evening and weekend work and availability via mobile phone and email beyond regular work hours is required.
2-Strict adherence to professional confidentiality with regard to donor identity and activity.
3-Strict adherence to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Practice for Fund-Raising Professionals at Educational Institutions of CASE.
4-Ability to supervise and establish effective working relationships with work study students to
appropriately assist in accomplishing responsibilities.
Emergency Need: Should be available for special University events, major conferences on campus, and emergency situations.

Qualifications:
1-A creative, results-orientated professional with successful experience in grant writing, especially
with EU and/or USAID grants.
2-Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing, Computers, English, Journalism, Public Relations, or
related field with relevant job experience required; Masters preferred.
3-Three or more years of grant writing and fundraising professional experience preferred
4-Excellent English language writing, editing and interpersonal skills – additional language skills,
especially in Arabic desirable.
5-Experience in higher education preferred.
6-The ability to work successfully on multiple projects and to work as part of team
7-Capacity to perform effectively under pressure.

The successful person for this position must be able to successfully initiate and engage in:
1-the writing of grants proposals and reports for funders.
2-interaction with and among Administrators, Deans, Directors, and faculty of the University
3-relationships with representatives of funding organizations, governments, and development
cooperation offices – and be knowledgeable about their funding priorities and requirements and
the University’s funding needs and opportunities.
4-the writing of promotional articles concerning the implementation of the funded projects.
