Job Description

The Norwegian Refugee Council is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced persons. We advocate for their rights and assist with shelter, education, food security, and information counselling & legal assistance.

NRC seeks:

Shelter Sector Coordinator (national staff position)

Gaza City

The aim of the sector approach is to strengthen humanitarian response by ensuring high standards of predictability, accountability and partnership in all areas of activity. NRC is currently the Lead Agency for the shelter sector in the Gaza Strip. The sector approach requires a coordinator be designated in order to ensure adequate coordination.

Profile

Education

Professional higher level technical qualification in construction or equivalent

Experience

Minimum 5 years experience in construction activities, plus;
At least 2 years relevant experience in the humanitarian sector;
Excellent leadership, coordination, and information management skills;
Knowledge of, UN Systems, and the NGO humanitarian community;
Knowledge of emergency shelter related technical standards.

Core Competencies

Demonstrated management and organisation skills;
Excellent written and oral presentation skills;
Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills;
Willingness and ability to work as part of a team and independently;
Fluency in written and spoken English.

Contract period: 6 months, with possible extension
