Shelter/ WASH Assistant

The Program:

NRC is providing humanitarian assistance and promoting respect for international law in one of the longest-running displacement crises, where we ensure that Palestinians affected by, or threatened with, displacement in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have access to assistance and protection. Our Shelter programs support access to adequate shelter in Gaza, while the WASH programs ensure vulnerable communities access safe, sufficient, and affordable hygiene and water facilities in Gaza. In the West Bank, WASH programs are jointly implemented with Education programs which ensure that Palestinian children have access to quality education and psycho-educational programs. The successful applicant will work remotely to support WASH and Shelter programs in Gaza, while work closely to support WASH in schools in the West Bank.

The Position:

The purpose of the Shelter/ WASH Assistant position is to provide support to Shelter/WASH program field implementation. 

Specific responsibilities 

1. Carry out vulnerability and needs assessments for shelter/WASH projects, including required construction works at the communal or household level.
2. Provide daily monitoring of Shelter/WASH activities.
3. Participate in hygiene awareness activities. 
4. Track daily work plan for implementation of Shelter/WASH activities.
5. Keep accurate data of all technical information and ensure that all beneficiary files are completed and filed.
6. Provide information about project criteria and activities and collect needed information on received complaints from beneficiaries and community members.
7. Support the efficient and cost-effective use of NRC’s assets and resources.
8. Share ideas with Shelter/WASH team to best fulfil participants’ needs.
9. Ensure cooperation/coordination with local community members.
10. Maintain proper communication with project partners, community members, and beneficiaries.
11. Provide administrative support to Shelter/WASH team.
12. Participate in emergency response activities (distribution and rapid assessment) as needed.
13. Undertake any other reasonable task assigned by the line manager.
14. Assist with the implementation of the shelter/WASH portfolio according to plan of action.

Generic professional competencies: 

• At least 1 year experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context is considered an asset.
• Knowledge and experience within a relevant administration, craft or technical field and ideally a relevant vocational qualification.
• Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts is considered an asset.
• Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision.
