Social Responsibility and Communication Manager

The constant stimulation of new social impact projects, new products from small scale farmers, new ideas and thinking of new ways to communicate and market Canaan and its wider social and environmental impact to the public and to the global sustainability community while working with high caliber colleagues and traditional farming communities in Palestine. Passion for fair trade, sustainable business, and Palestinian smallholder artisan producers is required. This leadership position reports to the Director of Canaan Fair Trade, and providing communication services to Canaan world-wide partners.
The individual will carry out a diverse range of communication activities for Canaan in a highly independent manner guiding, implementing, tracking, assessing, and communicating the company’s social and environmental impacts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the company's social responsibility programs by creating and executing plans to reach company mid-term and long term social impact goals.
Monitor, track, assess, and report company’s impact at the economic, social, and environmental level and prepare annual social impact report.
Initiating new ideas, designing new programs, and implementing them towards widening and advancing company’s social impact.
Articulate and communicate company’s social impact to existing and new business partners, the public, and company’s staff and associates.
Build and maintain company’s social responsibility profile and implement its dissemination and recognition in the global sustainability business community, international mainstream media, social media as well as development communities and agencies.
Represent and speak for the company before the public, local and international agencies and media outlets on matters that relate to the wider impact of company’s business activities.
Correspond with international business partners and respond to their inquiries and needs of information on producers and products profile and the impact indicators.
Develop and maintain great relationships with all key business partners and distributors.
Attend trade shows, national and international from setup to tear down participating in products display and presentation as well as representation. Organize and actively participate in sales meetings arranged around trade shows.
Prepare for and organize informational and promotional events and workshops at the local and international levels to demonstrate company’s impact and recruit new partners.
Recruit businesses and development partners to be invested in company’s social goals and programs.
Prepare and disseminate company’s press releases in relations to social responsibility.
Feedback producers’ development department technical officers of the assessments of social impact programs, providing guidance and making adjustments in company’s or producers groups practices where such adjustments are assessed.
Approximately 25% travel mostly international (to be arranged).
INTERACTION
This position will interact closely with, Canaan Director, marketing team, producers development department team, producers, media, international business partners, distributors, retailers, and the public.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Will have managerial oversight over promotion staff and guidance to sales, marketing staff, and producer development staff.
EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE
Minimum: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of media, communications, international business, business administration, sustainability, Marketing, or related discipline that would support the knowledge, abilities and skill sets required to perform the full range of job responsibilities listed above, plus a minimum of 5 years experience in the communication and sustainability field performing the types of duties listed above.
Preferred: Possession of a Master's degree as stated above plus 7 or more years experience in the natural products sustainability industry performing the types of duties outlined above.
Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be highly reliable, responsive to time sensitive work assignments, goal oriented, results driven, creative in manner and delivery, affable and self-motivated.
Knowledgeable of a range of specialty food products including olive oil, particularly those with organic standards and differentiations between organic and non-organic products.
Work with spirit of enthusiasm, teamwork, cooperation and a sense of urgency.
Maintain a high degree of confidentiality over all matters in the course of business operations including customer and employee information, operational plans, trade secrets and other confidentially intended information and documents.
Ability to multi-task in an efficient, thorough, and prioritized manner; to work quickly, accurately and independently; and to anticipate needs and solve problems.
Good working knowledge and intermediate/advanced use of Illustrator, Photoshop, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of Arabic is a plus once other requirements are met.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Must have reliable transportation and maintain a valid driver's license including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage.
