Founded in 1993, Médecins du Monde Switzerland (MdM-CH) is a medical association of international solidarity that is part of the Médecins du Monde network. We provide sustainable access to health care for people in vulnerable situations in Switzerland and around the world.

MdM Switzerland, has been working in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) since 1994 in the sector of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), implementing emergency and development interventions, focusing on victim of occupation-related violence, children and detention, suicide prevention and management, strengthen of access to mental health cares at national and community level, and advocacy initiative.

Position in the organigram:

  • Under the managerial responsibility of the Field Coordinator/Programme Officer
  • Technical referent: MHPSS focal point at mission level

Objectives         

  • To improve individual and communities' psychosocial wellbeing, building the local capacity, providing quality psychosocial support and awareness activities.

Specific objectives:

  • Conduct and/or support the implementation of MHPSS, protection-related activities at individual, group and community level, including awareness campaigns and capacity building.
  • Ensure the proper use of MdM-CH resources and the respect of MdM-CH procedures in Palestine. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide Psychosocial support to individuals and groups in targeted locations according to the activities included in the different active projects and the standard procedures validated by MdM-CH.
  • Conduct community awareness sessions related to the promotion of the mental health and psychosocial well-being to partners, volunteers, and different groups of beneficiaries based on the individual needs and the activities included in the different active projects.
  • Informing, advising, and referring people towards internal services or partner, public or NGO facilities
  • Support the development and adaptation of specific didactic materials for technical topics and capacity building activities.
  • Provide plans of interventions, ideas to approach areas and other out of box ideas to achieve the goals of the active projects.
  • Participate in events, trainings, sessions, and meetings in collaboration with and support to the program department.
  • Participating in advocacy activities
  • Ensure the respect of protection mainstreaming and accountability mechanisms in program implementation.
  • Maintain and develop contacts and networks at community level, including representation of MdM-CH at field level, in the frame of his/her role.
  • Support the Program department in the design of new projects.
  • Provide on-time periodic and ad hoc reports according to MdM-CH and donor’s templates and procedures.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of the monthly plans.
  • Conduct assessment activities when needed.
  • Update and improve the current data collection system according to MdM-CH and donor’s templates.
  • Participation in the security meetings and respect of the security rules set up according to the context.
  • The list of tasks is not exhaustive and may be adapted to reflect specific needs and the requests of the manager.

Job Requirements

Academic and Working Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or equivalent
  • Master's degree in counselling or equivalent is an asset.
  • Proved knowledge of GBV and Child Protection principles and practices in (post) conflict areas
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive professional experience in the relevant field is required.
  • Experience with West Bank and East Jerusalem context, especially the communities and areas most vulnerable
  • Previous working experience with local NGOs or INGO in similar position, preferably in protection/MHPSS projects and/or community intervention.
  • Experience in contributing to the development and implementation of needs/vulnerability assessments and previous participation in beneficiary selection processes.
  • Experience in collaborating with staff from MoH, MoEHE, MoSD and civil society organizations.
  • Previous experience in community engagement and participatory approaches.
  • Previous experience providing trainings or facilitating staff capacity building activities and supervision sessions.
  • Fluent in Arabic, professional level in English, both oral and written
  • Essential computer literacy (Office pack and Internet)
  • Driving licence and capacity to drive everywhere in West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Other Requirements/Skills        

  • Ability to work under pressure in an unstable and changing environment.
  • Ability to be autonomous in the implementation of the field tasks and related tools.
  • Familiarity with tense communities environment
  • Ability to work with vulnerable groups of beneficiaries with tailored approach and sensitivity.
  • Strong empathy and familiarity with people affected by mental diseases and PTSD
  • Familiarity with monitoring and activity implementation tools
  • Reactivity, capacity to take initiatives, flexibility to adapt to the field and project needs
  • Excellent communication skills with beneficiaries and all project stakeholders
  • Excellent team player and conflict-mediation aptitude.

Conditions        

The position is based in Bethlehem, with frequent visits to East Jerusalem and South West Bank.

Contract Duration: 12 months renewable, with 3 months' probation period.
