Needs to fill the position of a:

Social Worker, Westbank (1 Position)

 

Type:   Full Time Contract

Duration of the contract:  12 months including 3 months' probation period, with a possibility of extension based on performance and fund availability.

Job Location:    Based between Jericho and Bir Zeit MdM Spain Offices, with constants field visits to surrounding communities (80% field visits / 20% offices).

Summary:

Médicos del Mundo-Spain (MdM-S), is an international humanitarian organization, working to make effective the Universal Right to Health. MdM is a non-profitable, non-governmental, non-political and non-confessional organization operating under the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence.

MdM-S has been working in the oPt since 2006. Its work has been oriented to Mental Health and Psychosocial support (MHPSS), and Primary Healthcare. In the Gaza Strip, MdM-S strategy aims the improvement of mental health and wellbeing of children and adolescents. This intervention is focused on the strengthening of governmental children and adolescent’s mental health services, and community organizations working with children and adolescents through a capacity building approach. This includes training activities and materials and equipment’s provision.

ORGANIZATION CHART:

 The Social worker reports directly to WB Projects Manager.

I.  MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Level 

  • Support and follow up the implementation of MdM-S social intervention in the targeted areas
  • Collect data from the communities and gather inputs for rolling out standards, methods and tools.
  • All data collect must be analyzed and all data analysis must be documented.
  • Merging data and constructing variables in program files;
  • Implementation and regularly update of the organization database(s).
  • Ensure that MdM-S PSS Tools and Procedures are implemented and updated. 
  • Support in the revision of the PSS procedures and the development of new procedures as required by the MHPSS Manager.
  • Participate in the referral system by referring cases to appropriate structures.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships within Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) team and with other structures and organizations.
  • Provide MHPSS services to communities in the targeted areas.
  • Collect data using digitalized tools and frequently update it online.

Developing PSS standards and tools

  • Contribute to the improvement of shared PSS programming standards. 
  • Ensure that MdM-S methods and standards for the implementation of PSS programs are developed/revised and remain updated based on MDM Spain programming practice and international standards. 
  • Implement MDM Spain quality standards and PSS minimum standards. 

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Implement monitoring and evaluation tools in coordination with the PSS/ protection experts and provide the necessary information to assess the program quality. 
  • Assist in analyzing the data collected and reports both quantitatively and qualitatively. 
  • Ensure the use of MdM-S tools and formats.
  • Monitor and evaluate social activities.
  • Provide the necessary information to the MHPSS Manager to assess the program implementation.
  • Assist in analyzing the data collected and reports both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Reporting

  • Write the minutes of any internal or external meeting attended and send them to the MHPSS Manager.
  • Write monthly follow-up reports to the MHPSS Manager on the targeted communities’ situation. 
  • Inform the MHPSS Manager on the material needs for the implementation of the activities.

Others 

  • Perform additional duties on request of the MHPSS Manager.
  • Translate verbally from Arabic to English and from English to Arabic when necessary.
  • Represent MdM-S in networks/clusters focused on PSS theme upon request of the MHPSS Manager.
  • To attend MdM-S team meetings and to give qualitative input.
  • To participate in clusters’ meetings when relevant.

Job Requirements

1.  Requirements

Academic / Professional background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work.
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices of Protection response in (post) conflict areas. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive professional experience in the relevant field is required.
  • Previous working experience with local NGOs or INGO in similar position, preferably in MHPSS projects and/or community intervention.
  • Experience in developing and conducting needs/vulnerability assessments and previous participation in beneficiary selection processes, and case management.
  • Experience implementation of Mental Health (MHPSS) program.
  • Previous experience in community engagement and participatory approaches.
  • Good knowledge of Protection issues
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Previous experience providing trainings or facilitating staff capacity-building activities.
  • Previous work in complex emergency contexts will be an asset.
  • Previous working experience with Bedouin communities is an asset

Specific Skills:

  • Ability to cope with difficult security context.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and assertively with MdM target groups.
  • Ability to draft standard and clear written communication, such as letters and reports.
  • Excellence in organizing, planning and prioritizing tasks.
  • Coordination ability to perform his/her duties as part of a team.
  • Ability to identify strengths/weaknesses, proposing solutions for the improvement of the services provided.
  • Familiarity with creative methodologies will be considered.
  • Culturally sensitive, respectful attitude and collaborative approach to diversity
  • Proven sense of professional discretion, integrity, and ability to work in an international environment.
  • Emotional management.

Language requirements:

Fluent speaking and writing English, native Arabic.

Computer literacy:

Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

Compensation package:

Medicos del Mundo’s Salary charts will apply.

The compensation package total is from 63,060 ILS to 72,192 ILS gross/ year divided on 12 payments and based on experience. In addition, MdM Spain covers a transportation allowance for the staff.
