Social Worker
SOS Children’s Villages takes action for children as an independent non-governmental social development organization. SOS Children’s Villages Palestine is in process of prequalifying a roster of professionals in Gaza Strip and West Bank to implement a humanitarian intervention. The main objectives of the project are to provide life-saving access to basic needs through multi-sector humanitarian assistance, as well as protection children, youth and their care givers, and to provide integrated and holistic durable solutions to support family recovery, build resilience and self-reliance by enabling early and long-term recovery.

SOS Children’s Villages works with children’s and youth. Position Title: Social Worker
Working Location: Gaza Strip
Status: Full Time Limited Contract.
Contract Type: Limited Contract until 30/06/2025 subject to SOS Palestine priorities and fund availability.
Mission of the position:
The goal of this position is ensuring quality intervention for children, women and caregivers within a project titled “Strengthening the well-being of vulnerable families living in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
The main role of the social worker includes specifically proper intervention with the target group, quality implementation of children/families individual and group support and utilization of referral mechanism. The role of the social worker is essential in securing support for children/families that will be referred through the partners. The social worker reports directly to the Field Emergency Project coordinator and works in close coordination with the project team and Family Strengthening Programme.

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
· Prepare family development plans, with the strong participation of caregivers, children and the multidisciplinary team.
· Guide and support the children participation and engage them progressively in the project activities
· Create supportive groups with local partners for target benefeciaries in the community or in partner CBOs
· Conduct awareness session meetings and capacity buildings for benefeciaries and CBO partners
· Develop individual and group intervention plans with children and families
· Organize group activities for children and families in community centers.
· Coordinate field visits to intervene with the families according to the intervention plan
· Refer cases based on the national referral system
· Provide regular reports on project implementation and progress of activities
Child Safeguarding (CS)
- Responsible within own area of work to raise awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy principles and to prevent and protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
- Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the IOR CS focal person and/or to the respective line manager

Qualifications and Competencies for the position:
Must Criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in Counselling/Social Work/Mental Health.
- At least 3-5 years’ experience working directly with caregivers and children survivors of violence.
- Work experience in a case management system.
- Ability to combine field and office work;
Competencies – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Good knowledge of social welfare policies, services, laws at national level and set up of national child protection and social system
- Good knowledge of child development, family functioning, human behaviour and social environment
- Knowledge on social work ethics, theories and methods in work with children and families
- Knowledge on child protection and children rights
- Knowledge on social issues facing children and families, such as health (including HIV/AIDS), poverty, lack of access to education, child abuse and neglect, gender violence, discrimination, substance abuse etc.
- Knowledge on how traditions, culture, beliefs and customs influence human functioning and development at all levels
- Understanding of cultural diversity, characteristics of special target groups, implications for assessment and intervention
- Understanding of services, including crisis intervention, parenting skills training, family counselling, conflict resolution and individual and group counselling
- Good time management, organisational and administrative skills
- Team work and flexible.
Preferred Additional Criteria
- Experience in the development or delivery of economic support services for women and families.
