Summary:

Médicos del Mundo-Spain (MdM-S), is an international humanitarian organization, working to make effective the Universal Right to Health. MdM is a non-profitable, non-governmental, non-political and non-confessional organization operating under the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence.

MdM-S has been working in the oPt since 2006. Its work has been oriented to Mental Health and Psychosocial support (MHPSS), and Primary Healthcare. In the Gaza Strip, MdM-S strategy aims the improvement of mental health and wellbeing of children and adolescents. This intervention is focused on the strengthening of governmental children and adolescent’s mental health services, and community organizations working with children and adolescents through a capacity building approach. This includes training activities and materials and equipment’s provision.

ORGANIZATION CHART:

The social worker reports directly to MHPSS Manager.

 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this position is to deliver comprehensive Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and basic protection services to the affected population at Medical Points, Primary Health Care (PHC) centres, and/or other MDM-S intervention structures. This includes providing Psychological First Aid (PFA), MHPSS case management, raising awareness on MHPSS and protection issues (including Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Child Protection), conducting psychoeducation, facilitating group psychosocial support activities or programs for children, adolescents, and adults, and ensuring effective referral pathways for individuals requiring additional services. All activities will be conducted in accordance with MDM-S technical guidelines, frameworks, and protocols, and carried out under the supervision of the Team Leader and Project Manager.

1.  FUNCTIONS

Operative Functions

  • Identify beneficiaries needing MHPSS and protection support, ensuring proper and effective referral to appropriate services.
  • Implement assessment sessions in line with MDM-S protocols to evaluate mental health, psychosocial, and protection needs. This includes conducting key informant interviews, focus group discussions with professionals, beneficiaries, and key community members, and mapping available resources and services. Collect qualitative and quantitative data accurately according to MDM-S technical guidelines.
  • Deliver MHPSS and protection activities, including MHPSS case management, awareness raising, psychoeducation, and group psychosocial support activities for children, adolescents, and adults, in accordance with MDM-S protocols and technical guidelines.
  • Perform data entry using the MDM-S data entry tool in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Identify best practices, lessons learned, and challenges for the provision of MHPSS services, and provide recommendations for future improvements.
  • Participate proactively in and capitalize on technical supervision processes to improve their professional performance.

Program support

  • Provide support in the design and implementation of programs related to MHPSS, GBV, Child Protection, and inclusion.
  • Assist in the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data collected during program activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly situation reports and mid-term donor reports, ensuring they are comprehensive and accurate.

Networking

  • Participate in relevant platforms, networks, and clusters focused on protection themes when requested, representing MDM-S and ensuring alignment with broader protection efforts.
  • Coordinate with staff from other MDM chapters, International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to ensure collaboration and effective service delivery.

Advocacy functions

  • Collect and compile information to support advocacy activities, ensuring alignment with the organization's advocacy strategy and objectives.

Additional tasks and responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties as requested by the MHPSS Manager, Field Manager, MHPSS Coordinator, and General Coordinator.
  • Attend MDM-S-S team meetings and providing qualitative input to discussions.
  • Prepare, if necessary, contingency plans in collaboration with the MDM-S-S team.

2.  Requirements

Academic / Professional background:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or equivalent
  • Proved knowledge of current MHPSS, GBV and Child Protection principles and practices in conflict areas
  • Proved experience in MHPSS or Protection Case Management is an asset
  • Master's degree in counselling or equivalent is an asset
  • Training on pedagogic methodologies or communication skills are assets
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive professional experience in the relevant field is required
  • Previous working experience with local NGOs or INGO in a similar position, preferably in MHPSS, protection projects and/or community intervention.
  • Experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programs.
  • Experience in collaborating with staff from MoH, MoEHE, MoSD, and civil society organizations.
  • Previous experience in community engagement and participatory approaches.
  • Good knowledge of Protection issues
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Previous experience providing training or facilitating staff capacity-building activities and supervision sessions.

  • Ability to communicate sensitively and assertively with MdM target groups.
  • Ability to draft standard and clear written communication, such as letters and reports.
  • Excellence in organizing, planning, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Coordination ability to perform his/her duties as part of a team.
  • Task independence but also open to receiving feedback and technical support.
  • Ability to identify strengths/room for improvement, proposing solutions for the improvement and enhancement of the services provided.
  • Ability to provide training. Familiarity with creative methodologies will be considered.
  • Culturally sensitive, respectful attitude and collaborative approach to diversity
  • Proven sense of professional discretion, integrity, and ability to work in an international environment.
  • Resilient, empathetic, and effective responsibility.

Language requirements:

  • Fluent in speaking and writing Arabic (Mandatory)
  • Fluent in speaking and writing English will be an asset.

Computer literacy:

  • Microsoft Office package (especially Word, Excel and Outlook).
