Job Description

Background:

UN–HABITAT is seeking a qualified and experienced storyteller for its “Quality Urban Development and Sustainable Interventions – Rehabilitation for Revitalization” QUDSI-R4R project, that is based in Jerusalem's Old City. The selected storyteller will be responsible for presenting a predefined historical story to various groups of students over a period of two months at Dar Al Consul in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Objectives:

The primary objective of this engagement is to provide educational and entertaining storytelling sessions to students visiting Dar Al Consul, hereinafter referred to as DAC. The storyteller is expected to bring historical narratives to life, fostering an appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of the region among the targeted audience.

Scope of Work:

The selected storyteller (male/female) will be responsible for the following:

  1. Presenting pre-determined stories to various groups of students within Dar Al Consul premises.
  2. Adapting storytelling techniques to suit different age groups and ensuring engagement with the audience.
  3. Incorporating a sense of humor into the storytelling sessions to make the historical narratives more captivating for the students.
  4. Ensuring a culturally sensitive and inclusive approach in storytelling.
  5.  The narrative should align with the specified time and historical period relevant to the story, and the storyteller is expected to dress in authentic clothing related to that era.

Expected Deliverables

  1. A written story in Arabic, with an English translation.
  2. A capacity building component on presenting to target few DAC youth/leaders on presenting the story.
  3. Two hours a day are needed for 20 days to perform storytelling sessions for schools inside of DAC

Job Requirements

Personal Requirements:

  1. Deep Historical Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated expertise in the history of Jerusalem, particularly in the designated period of the story.
  • Ability to convey historical information accurately and engagingly.
  1. Age and Appearance:
  • The storyteller (male/female) age should be between 30-67 years old, projecting a seasoned and wise demeanor.
  • Authenticity in appearance, aligning with the time of the story.
  1. Sense of Humor:
  • Ability to infuse sense of humor into storytelling to captivate the audience, especially children.
  • Understanding cultural nuances to incorporate appropriate sense of humor.
  1. Child Interaction Skills:
  • Experience and comfort in dealing with diverse age groups, particularly children.
  • Ability to adjust storytelling style, based on the age and comprehension level of the audience.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct engaging storytelling sessions for various groups of students at DAC.
  2. Dress in authentic attire related to the time period of the story.
  3. Interact with children and adjust storytelling style to suit different age groups.
  4. Ensure that a sense of humor is infused appropriately into the storytelling experience.
  5. Collaborate with DAC team to coordinate session schedules and any additional requirements.

Contract Duration:

The timeframe for this assignment will be 2 hours a day for 20 days to perform storytelling sessions for schools inside DAC, spread over a period of two months.
