RTI International is requesting applications for technical and operational roles on USAID-funded West Bank Early Grade Reading Activity. This activity will work closely with and support the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) to enhance learning outcomes for Palestinian children at the primary level by improving Arabic reading instruction, and policies and practices at the government, community and school levels. Positions are based in Ramallah. Successful candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills including fluency in English and Arabic.
Teacher Coaching/Teaching & Learning Materials Coordinator
Complementary Materials
- In cooperation with the Ministry inventory early grade reading materials that have been distributed by the Ministry.
- Compile a list of materials developed and distributed to classrooms by NGOs, CBOs, private organizations.
- Along with Senior Early Grade Reading Specialist, work closely with textbook development specialists from the MOE Curriculum Department to determine the supplementary materials needed to support the curriculum
- Liaise with children’s writers and publishers in the development and procurement of reading materials
- Organize meetings of the technical working group to review and develop materials
Coaches, Teacher and Learning Materials
- Work with the MOEHE to develop grade-specific materials that support early grade reading and writing
- Participate in the working group to review and develop the KG – 2 instructional materials needed to support the curriculum
- Work with EGR specialists to determine instructional strategies for the use of complementary materials
- Be familiar with MOEHE policies regarding early grade reading instruction
- Compile an inventory of complementary materials currently in use
- Contribute to the reports of the working group activities
- Oversee the development of new instructional and student materials as recommended by the working group
- Coordinate with EGR specialists on the development, publication and distribution of materials for coaches
Miscellaneous Tasks
- Stay well informed regarding EGR polices and new developments.
- Serve as valuable member of the technical support team, using innovative approaches to solving problems and working closely with fellow members of the technical support team and stakeholder group to achieve project goals.
- Perform additional tasks as required by project leadership.
Minimum Required Education & Experience
- A Master’s Degree in Education is preferred, preferably in curriculum development. A Bachelor's degree is required.
- Requires either an academic specialty or extensive field experience in early grade reading – a combination of both is preferred.
- At least 5 years’ experience in the technical direction of programs that work specifically to improve early grade reading.
- Prior experience with the development of early grade reading materials, training programs, classroom monitoring protocols, and tests and assessments (including EGRA or similar tests).
- Prior experience working in conflict or crisis affected environments.
- Familiarity with, and comprehension of, core concepts in early grade reading and conflict-sensitive education.
