Teacher Training and Development Coordinator

The post-holder will provide a practical level of support to the the local EES team in the effective delivery of high-impact projects. This is a 50:50 role, split between our EES work on general EES English projects including  ‘Teaching for Success’ and our new innovative @Palestine project. It is envisaged that this role will require a lot of external engagement, regular travel around the West Bank, including meetings and training sessions with our key ELT OPT stakeholders (The Ministry of Education, UNRWA and Palestinian Universities).

The British Council has been operating in Occupied Palestinian Territories since 1949, and currently employs more than 20 full time staff. The operation includes a diverse portfolio of work including Exams, English, Education, Arts and Society programmes that reach Palestinians across Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Our work in English for Education Systems has focused on the development of English teachers and teacher educators at Ministry of Education and UNRWA schools. We use ‘Teaching for Success’ as our approach; it includes online modules and teacher activity groups. We are looking to expand our work under ‘Teaching for Success’ to include development opportunities for every English teacher in OPT, a greater focus on teacher educators and a more student-focused element in the form of extra-curricular activities.

@Palestine is a new and innovative project that aims to increase the employability of youth across OPT. Its focus is on developing the professional English and 21st century skills of youth through partnerships with higher education institutions and digital enterprise hubs. This will partly be achieved by developing the skills of English teachers in the HE sector, specifically their capacity to integrate 21st Century Skills into English courses, and develop technical skills to teach using a blended / online approach (digital skills). 

It is envisaged that the post-holder will work with the EES team and internal / external stakeholders to maximise the impact of these ELT capacity building projects.

Programme Administration: 

Supporting the set up and delivery of blended & digital learning for @Palestine and ‘Teaching for Success’. This will include: 

• Acting as a point of contact for participants in online modules who are facing technical and/or log-in issues.
• Liaising with team of e-moderators and platform teams to ensure a positive experience for participants.
• Monitoring and Evaluation of our EES projects, including participant satisfaction, completion rates and project impact. 

Teacher and Teacher Educator Support:

Supporting the delivery of capacity building projects across the EES portfolio. This will include:

• Delivering training to Teacher Educators including MoE English Supervisors, UNRWA Educational Specialists, HEI sector English departments and Palestinian English teachers. 
• Contributing to and monitoring the ‘Teaching for Success’ online community.
• Identifying and sharing existing content and learning opportunities with teachers and teacher educators.
• Supporting the EES team to deliver and/or coordinate workshops and meetings to stakeholders in the education sector.

Stakeholder Management:

Supporting the EES project team to build and maintain relationships with both external and internal stakeholders across all projects. This will include :

• Maintaining records of meetings with key stakeholders and an up-to-date stakeholder database.
• Supporting in communications with stakeholders
• Supporting the OPT Marcoms team with our marketing and communication strategy, including the EES BC OPT website and social media. 
• Conducting research into potential future stakeholders that would aid in the expansion of existing programmes or new opportunities.
