The Program / Department / Team (Program / Department Summary)
Gaza Sky Geeks (GSG) is Gaza’s leading co-working space, tech education hub, and startup accelerator, run by Mercy Corps, a nonprofit international relief and development organization with programs in the occupied Palestinian territories since the 1980s. Mercy Corps founded GSG in partnership with Google.org in 2011.  We bring together online freelancers, outsourcers, and startup founders together under one roof to share ideas, best practices, code, and build brighter futures through the power of the internet. Gaza Sky Geeks’ overarching goal is to build an internationally competitive technology ecosystem in Gaza through online freelancing, outsourcing, and startups. 
 
The Position (General Position Summary)
The Technical Training Assistant (Gaza) will support the technical trainings different activities (Planning, Implementation, Recruitment, Performance and Quality and others).
The Technical Trainings Assistant will ensure the Trainings are implemented flawlessly, and the trainees are having a successful learning journey. The Assistant will also support with data collection and quality assurance parts of technical trainings.
 
Essential Responsibilities 
 
  • Support the technical training different components, which includes but not limited to implementation, execution, supervision, monitoring, communication, coordination, evaluation, documentation, and logistics of the various activities that comprise the technical training component and assuring a high quality of delivery.
  • Mapping out different resources such as Instructors, training halls and helping in growing GSG’s network of training assets. 
  • Foster the building and strengthening of the technical training community through activities and events that targets program target audience (implementing sessions, clubs, hackathons, and networking events etc.) as well as through GSG’s virtual platforms.
  • Continuous communication with the Technical Training instructors, overseeing progress, and supporting the data collection – this will include weekly check-in meetings to follow-up trainees’ progress and take corrective actions for those who are facing challenges.
  • Continuous communication with participants, solving issues with a customer-service mindset.
  • Provide input on mechanisms to develop the skills of participants. 
  • Coordinate with other GSG team members (e.g. communications, social media) to ensure that all external communications align with the technical training plan and done so in a way which maximizes reach and participation.
  • Other day-to-day assignments and tasks that might be required.

Reports Directly To: Technical Trainings Officer.
Works Directly With: GSG Tech Training Team, other GSG and MC Team members in Palestine
 
Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders
Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. Job Requirements
Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills 
  1. University degree in ICT, Science, engineering, business, English, or any other related field, with a demonstrated record of interest and contemporary knowledge in Its industry field and community work.
  2. At least 2 years of proven work experience in a professional team-oriented environment 
  3. Strong understanding of the social, political, and economic context of the Gaza Strip.
  4. Excellent writing and speaking skills in both English and Arabic.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office, Slack, Google products (Drive, Sheets, Docs). GSG does not use email internally. We use Slack. 
  6. Willingness to work outside of normal business hours as required.
  7. Technical Background, capability to deal with technical program participants.
