Job Description

Handicap International (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization, currently active in 60 countries, working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. It works alongside people with disabilities (PwDs) and vulnerable populations, taking action and bearing witness in order to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. HI has been present in the Middle East since 1987 and currently operates in Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine, with a regional office based in Amman, Jordan, and field offices in each country. In Palestine, HI has been active since 1996 and works in both Gaza and West Bank, through several projects.


Through the projects "Improved Access to Essential Services for Persons with Disabilities in Highly Marginalised Areas of occupied Palestinian territory” and “Access to essential services for children and adults with disabilities in highly marginalized areas of Palestine” HI is aiming to improve the access of highly vulnerable persons with disabilities to essential services in the oPt.  The project has two main components, which focus on access to basic educational services for children with disabilities (CwDs) in two zones of the Gaza Strip (Gaza City and Rafah City).

The first component of the project focuses on access to minimum humanitarian standards for  education services for children with disabilities (CwDs) in the Gaza Strip, with a particular focus on children with cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities (CwCP/MD) who are among the most vulnerable and marginalised groups of persons with disabilities. This component of the project focuses specifically on two targeted special schools “Palestine Avenir for Childhood Foundation- PACF” and “Society of Physically Handicapped People- SPHP”.

The second component of the project targets non-specialised stakeholders in the Gaza Strip to ensure that they promote a greater access to education and other basic services for CwDs that respond to their needs and rights. Through this component HI conducted barriers needs assessment on children with disabilities’ access to education, will deliver training for mainstream schools on disability rights and inclusive education, in addition to mainstreaming activities aiming to include the needs and rights of CwDs in stakeholders emergency and non-emergency related actions

REQUIRED SERVICE PROVISION

HI is looking for a service provider who is able to offer a creative, exciting and competitive proposal for a range of recreational and child to child activities.

The proposed activities are intended to include both children with and without disabilities from mainstream schools and the 2 targeted special education schools.
Recreational and child to child activities could include (but are not limited to):
-Inclusive Arts and crafts
-Innovative ideas through the use of recycled materials
-Drama and theatre
-Animation workshops
-Inclusive and accessible sports and fun activities
-Recreational days should include children with and without disabilities and their parents taking into consideration inclusive activities for all children together, taken into account different impairment needs
-Recreational activities should have an end product that could be used later on for community awareness raising activities on disability rights and inclusive education. For example, a mural display, a cartoon or a theatre production about the topic etc.
