Position: Trainer for Community Nurses/Health Educators
Directly Manages: Community Nurses/Health Educators
Start Date: January 2010
Duration: 4 months
Location: Gaza city, regular visits to the field
Job summary- The Trainer for Community Nurses/Health Educators contributes to the timely
implementation and quality of the community based activities as well as the timely reporting of these
activities. The community based activities aim to raise awareness on accessibility and availability of safe blood products through the blood banking system and to influence practices. The community based activities will be conducted by Merlin recruited Community Nurses/Health Educators, through health education sessions and distribution of leaflets. The Merlin Nurse Trainer will be based at the Merlin office in Gaza.
She/he will carry out responsibilities and tasks in the Merlin office and in the field with the Community Nurses/ Health Educators. The trainer will report to Merlin’s Gaza based Health Coordinator (HC).
Core responsibilities:
-Assist Health Coordinator and Project coordinator/M&E officer in compiling data for and analysis
data of the KAP survey on blood donation.
-In collaboration with HC, teach skills and provide knowledge to community nurses on blood donation, community health, chronic diseases, and health education.
-Observe and assess practical skills of nurses in community.
-Assist nursing teams (and community assistants, where applicable) in identifying and scheduling
community groups/members targeted for home visits.
-Encourage and enable nurses to perform their duties as community/home visit nurses.
-Provide weekly reports on community activities to Health Coordinator (using reporting template).
-Assist HC and PC/M&E officer in preparing monthly reports.
-Provide weekly attendance report of nurses.
-Report Immediately to HC any problems phased in coordination with MOH or community.
Person Requirements:
-Health professional, doctor or nurse, with a Masters in Public Health.
-Previous experience in working with local or International NGO is an asset
-Essential (basic) knowledge of blood components, diseases and donation.
-Experience in managing of and training (TOT and direct training) on health awareness to community.
-Experience in conducting needs assessments.
-Experience of team management and management of a team in a conflict setting
-Strong organisational and prioritising skills, ability to execute work with attention to fine detail.
-Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office
-Ability to work on own initiative and to meet deadlines.
-Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and liaise and network
well with partners including local authorities.
- Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
-Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures.
-Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines.
-Experience of proactively identifying and addressing issues.
