Purpose of the Position
The Health & Nutrition Specialist is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and administration of the Health & Nutrition programme within the country programme. Accountable for effective technical and programme support to facilitate the application and adaptation of UNICEF policies and strategies to achieve strategic priorities and objectives and expansion of UNICEF assisted Health & Nutrition interventions, including the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals agenda.
Key Expected Results
-Accurate information, data analysis, and documentation are timely made available to support situation analysis, sectorial input and reporting.
-Technical assistance are provided to the development and implementation of integrated Health & Nutrition (H&N) and Early Childhood Development (ECD) strategies and approaches for social and behavioural change through participation and collaboration with internal and external partners.
-Health and Nutrition and ECD communication strategy, objectives and work plans are strategically developed and formulated, and their implementation is effectively managed, monitored and evaluated.
-Project implementation progress is monitored for adjustment and improvement of program delivery and sustainability. Gender sex aggregated data and inputs provided relevant to the Health & Nutrition programme
-Up-to-date programme information is kept available and reports prepared and shared with relevant stakeholders as required to support the Health & Nutrition programme by the effective implementation of integrated monitoring system.
-Transparency is ensured for supply and non-supply assistance and disbursement of programme funds for Health & Nutrition.
-Emergency preparedness is maintained, and humanitarian response is provided when appropriate in Health and Nutrition.
-Provide UNICEF support to Nutrition sector lead and coordination.
-Provide support to promote integrated Early Childhood Development (ECD), the early detection of developmental delays and disabilities, and subsequent Early Childhood Interventions (ECI).
-Other assigned duties and responsibilities are effectively accomplished.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Education
-Master's degree in Medicine and/or Master's degree in Public Health and Nutrition, Early Childhood Development, Social Development, Community Development, Social sciences or other relevant disciplines.
Work ExperienceField work experience:
-At least five years of professional work experience in planning, programming, implementation -monitoring and evaluation of health & nutrition programmes. Professional work experience in a programme management function or a technical expert capacity in child survival & health care, and integrated Early Childhood Development. Experience in behavioural change communication.
