Background:
The Jerusalem Office of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS Jerusalem Project Centre) was established in East Jerusalem in late 2006.  Under the overall objective of supporting peace and state building, its aim is to provide the United Nations sister agencies and governments with professional project implementation services in humanitarian and development cooperation in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

The current JMPC portfolio consists of design and construction projects on the one hand, and projects and task orders focusing on provision of technical assistance and/or administrative services on the other.  The infrastructure portfolio is funded by several donors under different agreements supporting the Palestinian Authority through provision of project management, design, engineering, construction, procurement, contract management as well as training and capacity building activities. UNOPS in oPt is focused on supporting the creation of environmentally and commercially sustainable high levels of standards for public buildings and facilities for the Palestinian Authority, fully compliant with international standards in construction and operational regulations. An important emphasis is on constructing facilities that are tailored to the local culture and the annual operational budget of the Palestinian Authority.
Under the overall guidance of the UNOPS Project Manager, with the technical advice of the Chief Design Engineer, the Draughts person will give his/her technical expertise as required to manage and coordinate any building and related civil design and documentation works.

Description of Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for the following substantive tasks; this list is not representative of all the duties required but indicates typical duties and responsibilities:
-Prepare architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical drawings including plans, sections, elevations, details and other layouts as instructed by the Project Manager and/or the Chief Design Engineer
-Conduct site visits to assist the Project Engineer(s) in completing surveys / assessment works within the oPt.
-Responsible for the standardization of drawings and the application through CAD software’s in accordance with standards and specifications of the applicable architectural and engineering code and guidelines of the UNOPS.
-Review of drawings under the instructions and supervision of the technical staff and prepare changes, amendments and any other details required.
-Check the engineering drawings of prepared projects before tendering and ensure that they comply with the UNOPS guidelines, and facilitate their use and interpretation during the execution of the project.
-Using CAD software’s in such a proficient manner in order to standardize drawing details and dimensions in sound engineering clarity and standards, and without discrepancies
-Provide assistance, as needed, in the preparation and checking of Bill of Quantities and the drawings for architectural and engineering works through application of Auto-CAD whenever required within the UNOPS projects.
-Perform any other duties as may be requested by the Project Manager and/or the Chief Design Engineer

Impact of Results
-Successful completion of the tasks explained in the previous paragraph. Successful and timely delivery of all activities and products;
-Produce Auto CAD drawings according to stipulations;
-Ensure high quality drawings that are accurate and that meet set deadlines.

-Excellent knowledge of architectural drafting as well as a good knowledge in survey, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings;
-Ability to consolidate information from different sources;

-Ability to manage quality control requirements.
 
Qualifications :
Education:
-Secondary education (recognized diploma in Drafting, Architectural Engineering or equivalent would be considered as an asset)

Experience:
-2-3 years of relevant work experience;
-A comprehensive knowledge of AutoCAD (2010) ;
-Knowledge of the UN system and familiarity with UNOPS procedures is an asset.

-Fluency in written and spoken English
