POSITION TITLE : Architect
Grade : 13
DUTY STATION : Field Office - Jerusalem
DEPARTMENT / DIVISION : Infrastructure and Camp Improvement

PLACE IN THE ORGANIZATION
The incumbent of this post is responsible to Head Design Unit

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the  incumbent:
-Assists in the implementation of the main objectives of defining policies, strategies and leading a comprehensive Field-wide Agency approach to all aspects of camp development planning implementation.
-Participates in the preparation of development/planning options for refugee camps based on studying the interaction among the physical economic and social aspects.
-Assists in carrying out a “General study of Field-wide camp development needs for Refugee Camps" determining an initial work plan.
-Assists in the design of a comprehensive data base for each camp/location selected and carries out comprehensive documentation of recent camp upgrading and shelter/housing developments.
-Assists in the collection, compilation and organization process of all relevant existing reports, data and statistics, available from various sources e.g. Agency records, World Bank, NGOs, Geneva University. Carries out comparison studies with similar programs in host countries, other UN organizations, NGOs and experiences.
-Assists in the preparation of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies addressing the needs of multi-sectors, including housing, water, sanitation, socio-economics, health and education to achieve improvements in the community’s ability to pursue sustainable livelihoods
-Performs such other duties as may be required.                                                                                                                                                                              
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Academic and professional qualifications

-A university degree in architecture with an emphasis on urban planning or with work-experience in urban planning.
-Good working knowledge in the use of standard office software and specialized computer applications related to the construction industry in general, including AutoCAD.

Experience:

At least five years relevant professional experience at national level, three years of which should be in developing countries.

Language:
Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic.

Competencies:
-Leadership, creativity and ability to take initiative.
-Familiarity with the culture of the refugees host countries.
-Knowledge of development, planning and architectural aspects in the Middle East.
-Ability to work under pressure
 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
-Knowledge of regional practice and construction materials used in the area of operation.
-Experience in construction of low-cost housing in the Near East.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Possession of a valid driving license.
 
EQUIVALENCY:
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered, should less than two qualified candidates are found.

REMUNERATION’S   
GRADE : 13                                                                     
MONTHLY BASE SALARY : 902.6  JD + An allowance of 1000 NIS payable in JD at UNRWA rate + Other fringe benefits include provident fund & health insurance.                                      
DEPENDENCY  ALLOWANCE   : Payable to spouse and up to seven children
DATE FOR ENTRY ON DUTY    : As soon as possible
